Lenovo E330 Battery Unlock
#1
Hey,

i dont know if this is the right place for my request, but I bought a new battery from ebay for my lenovo E330 and when I try to start my laptop with the new battery it says "This battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct lenovo battery for this system". Is there a way to get around of this?

ThinkPad Edge E330
Model: NZS96GE
Bios: Phoenix BIOS SC-T v2.2

Thanks in advance!

Greetings

Hi,

Not sure if possible, and if this is the correct place to request this but...

I am after some help modding my BIOS to allow 3rd party batteries on my ThinkPad E330.
I purchased a replacement off eBay, and when connecting to the laptop and powering on, I get a message that says the currently installed battery is not supported and may not charge.

My current BIOS version is:
H3ET75WW(1.12)

It has already been adjusted to remove the whitelist for my WiFi card, so if required I will try to dump the BIOS I am currently running and upload.

Many thanks
Eds

Hi, I wonder if someone could help me please. I have attempted to mod my EC using Hamish Coelman's git hub guide but I have hit a snag. The guide is very comprehensive and links to the E330 but when I go to build the battery patch it doesn't work. It downloads Lenovo's bios update but cannot apply the keyboard patch. i have already specified the battery disable patch but it doesn't even try to apply that. I really want to try to understand this process and do it myself but it is really confusing me and I admit I am out of my depth. I have upgraded the bios/ UEFI to the last one lenovo offers, 1.16 and have upgraded the ram, CPU and SSD so this is the last hurdle to having a nice little laptop. My other one is an x61 and I would stiil use it if it was just a bit faster. I really don't like the idea of Hex editing so this little guide seemed comprehensive and easy to follow. I copied the terminal text so I can show that if needed. Thanks

Lenovo FL files consist both of ec and bios images. Just open e330 patch in raw mode, replace occurences marked as different, red (---) and green (+++), in $01H3000 update file.
EC starts at offset 800000h for Lenovo E330.

Thank you Maxinator 500, but what you have said has gone straight over my head. Maybe the fact I don't understand what you have said means I shouldn't be trying to do this, but I could follow the tutorial on Hamish Coleman's git hub so I suppose I got a false sense of security. I was hoping for a step by step guide but even "raw mode" has me stumped. I have tried using a UEFI tool and just got nowhere. I think I'll just give up and run it off the mains . Thanks anyway.

Maxinator 500, I looked at the update file I had and found 2 files named  $01H3000.FL1 and  $01H3000.FL2 I opened them with "UEFITool NE alpha 68 (Nov 4 2023)" and looked at the Raw file "F33E367F-41D2-4201-9CB7-AFA63DCCEEC9" in FL2. As you described no data until line 80000, but also no red and no green, no --- and no +++ only black and blue letters and numbers. I have no idea what to do with hex files and I really don't want to brick the machine. Thanks for your help.

There - 006_battery_validate.patch.
UEFITool won't tell you what to do. You already have the patch, no need to figure out your own one.

After much searching I think I understand and have done the editing now, just trying to reflash the bios as the laptop won't allow an update as it is already up to date. Thank you
