[NVRAM Request Thread] VT, AHCI, & DEP NVRAM Register Master List
#21
Hi!
I have Lenovo 3000 n200 (0769) variant. And this is the link to the bios http://support.lenovo.com/rs/en/products...tebook?c=1&beta=false
I want to update all the PCI_ROMs and update CPU microcodes.
My problem is that I cannot understand any of the steps for modifying and implementing PCI ROM's, CPU microcodes or anything...
I succsesifully updated couple of AMI BIOSes with easy to use MMTool, but with this just too much to digest :-(
Every time i start to read tutorial I get lost half way through with million opened tabs and programs...
PLease help me out!

Hello diskodasa,

Please make your CPU Microcode request in the CPU Support Upgrades forum and your PCI ROM update request in the Option ROM Modding Requests forum. Make this request in one forum, and then once the request is answered, take the request to the other forum.

Hi there, here is the long story.
Since september this year, someone handed me a benq joybook r55v, bios never had been updated and i wrongly updated it versions for r55, i wasn't in me lol, i noticed the memory was working in single channel mode, then i really updated it to Q4A06 which is it seems to be the latest bios for this... piece of.. laptop.
Before adventuring into bios updating, the laptop had some problems somewhere, it could boot up or maintain itself working, then decided to take a look at it to clean up and add some paste and put a powerful cpu + ram + hdd, hdd was dead.
The laptop now has a Core T7200 which has VT-x, 2x 1gb ddr2-667, 80gb hdd.
Bios has no options for VT-x or AHCI. I loaded the Bios into phoenix bios editor 2.2.13 and gives me some warnings, i wonder why... and seen the AHCI disable/enable is in the menu but laptop bios doesnt show it and i can't see VT-x nowhere.
I installed Virtual PC 2007 sp1 and other virtualization tools but virtualization checkbox is greyed or ability can't be enabled.
Forgot to tell that the laptop had a T5200 and it has no VT-x.
And the T7200 came from a dead Asus A7C aka A7J.
The laptop works really nice 98% of time except either need to get a better wifi card or a usb wifi card cos always having to hit wifi button near screen to enabled the 3945abg makes no sense to me.
Hope you can help me out.
Thanks in advance.

Hello moonlightz,

Your BIOS image's VT setting was under the name 'VT Feature'. I was not able to find AHCI in your BIOS image. What name did you find it under in Phoenix BIOS Editor?

VT-x Register: 0246 ; Change (0246) [0000] -> (0246) [0001]

I looked up your CPU and it supports VT-x. As long as your chipset supports VT-x, enabling VT-x via the NVRAM register should enable you to use hardware virtualization.

Many thanks, Sml6397.
I'll test it soon as possible and report back.
I'm now at phoenix bios editor 2.2.13, under Setup Table, Root->Advanced, AHCI Configuration / Enhanced AHCI.
But AHCI is something i don't care much cos laptop has XP and i think XP is perfect for it instead of win7/10.
Laptop chipset is an intel 945MP and it should allow VT-x.

Changing the 0246 from 0000 to 0001 worked. Tested with Virtual PC 2007 sp1 and others should detect VT too. Thanks Sml6397.

You are welcome! Smile

I am not sure how I managed to miss that, but yes, your BIOS does have support for AHCI.

If you wish to enable AHCI, the register for your BIOS image is 00C9. Change: (00C9) [0000] -> (00C9) [0001]

Thx, perhaps i can test it too, just would need to enable msahci driver as boot start. But i wonder why such option isnt there in bios itself. BenQ was kinda crap make.
Hmm i do have other laptop but it uses a cpu which doesnt support VT-x but it has AHCI available.

Well, i changed 00C9 to 0000 to 0001 and saved to nvram but when system loaded windows, i expected a bsod but that didnt happen.
According to device manager, atapi pciide pciidex are being used.
Will have to recheck again.

Hello moonlightz,

Could you upload an updated copy of your NVRAM register token table please? I want to make sure the setting change saved properly.
