[READ FIRST] Access Advanced settings through EFI shell

Using the efi shell from falseclock's method, the shell never boots from usb, stuck at black screen, so I tried with grub uefi shell, and doing
setup_var 0x2A1 0x01 gives me
offset 0x2A1 is: 0x00
Setting offset 0x2a1 to 0x01
error: can't set variable using efi (error: 0x000000000000001a)

Any idea?
