[REMOVED] DV6-3071tx Whitelist Removal
#1
Hey guys, been browsing the forum for a few hours, wanted to give this a crack but i think its going to go way over my head...

Laptop is a DV6-3071TX
Currently running the sp50942 unhackable bios... however came with the second newest as the preloaded version.
quite happy to go back a few versions if one can be whitelist removed!
all bios's are available here: DV6-3071tx HP Support > All Bios Page

Currently has an Atheros card in it, trying to add an Atheros based Bigfoot Killer Wireless-N so i can have 300mb and 5ghz as opposed to 150mb 2.4ghz only

If it cant be done, no biggy... well it is but wont complain here.. will start hammering heads at hp Big Grin

cheers, have downloaded it to my other lappy for now, will fire it up in the morning and try it out, in the middle of moving house, as well as a massive storm that has been knocking the power out all night, not really a good time for me to flash it Big Grin

will report in as soon as i try

Gave it a go, trying to run it comes up with the error:

The procedure entry point
?SMI_PlatformRomMap@@YA_NHHAA_N@Z could not be located in
the dynamic link library ISCFLASH.dll.

extracted the files from the exe and tried using just the bios with the standard sp59042 files and get the expected "bios corrupted" error, so also tried using the icsflash.dll with it and then the error comes up again. So looks like the modded icsflash.dll is broken.

Use this dll to overwrite the other.

ok that dll fixed it, so far so good, have flashed the bios and the computer still works as normal, time to shutdown and insert the new wireless card.

Edit: Ok no go, works with the original wireless card, however on putting in the new card, the hp startup screen comes up, can press esc etc, however it is shortly followed by a new error msg similar to the original 104..

Wireless Module not supported

The system has detected a Wireless module installed in the system is
not supported. System Halted. Please remove device and restart.

WLAN Module ID (702)

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

ooo dear, on removing the wireless card again, now it no longer posts, sits for a while, then eventually looks at my recovery usb drive, and after a little while looking at it, comes up with a screen saying bios recovery failed, restarting, and just loops this... Big Grin

it seems the recovery process on this model is different to the others, trying win + b or fn + b has no effect on it at all, if i just power it up normally n leave it, it reads the hdd, and any usb drives plugged in, then after about 30 seconds comes up with the Bios update screen, saying

HP System Bios Recovery Failed

Press enter to continue
Lights may blink etc dont power off etc etc

Just loops like this non stop until i remove the power.

Seems theres more than one whitelist check.

Have you tried booting whithout any wlan card inserted?

I hope you'll have a way to recover it.

Tried with both the original card, the new card, and no card. However still failing to recover bios. It appears that the recovery is initializing however quickly fails within the first second. Either this machine uses a slightly different naming method for the bios file, or this things rooted....

Uffff!!! Have you tried taking the original 01448F23.bin file and copy to root of pendrive naming it 01448.bin?

Make some copies of it and name them as
01448F23.bin,
01448F23.fd,
01448.bin,
01448.fd,
1448.bin,
1449.bin,
144A.bin,
144B.bin,
144C.bin,
1447.bin,
147C.bin,
149C.bin,
1639.bin,
163A.bin,
163B.bin,
163C.bin,
163D.bin,
163E.bin,
1448.fd,
1449.fd,
144A.fd,
144B.fd,
144C.fd,
1447.fd,
147C.fd,
149C.fd,
1639.fd,
163A.fd,
163B.fd,
163C.fd,
163D.fd,
163E.fd,

and try with them. Use original bin from the stock flasher opened with winrar or 7zip. You can put all toguether if one matches the requested by bios recovery it will catch automatically.

Maybe it works via CD and not pendrive. Just a guess. Wish you luck, and sorry for my mistake.
