[REQUEST] Aorus 15G XB BIOS unlock
#1
Hi, guys !

First of all, thx for your work. I'm learning a lot...

I had an unlocked MSI BIOS a time ago and now I'm considering to unlock my new Aorus 15G, mainly because I hate I can't tune undervolt, etc...

I've dumped my BIOS, and can edit it using AMIBCP 5.02.0031 (aptio V) but not sure if the edition is right and if I can successfully flash the tweaked bios...). I'm not brave enough atm, at least ultil I can be blessed with your wisdom. I've read differente info, but not sure if it's enough or I need additional steps to get it working.

Does the general procedure of chaning Default to USER in menu work for aptio V? I've tried also to find the pattern (01 01 01 .. 00 00 00...)  with no success... but anyway not working with aptio v... right ? I would need to be focused on the right path, please.

Big thx in advance !!!

Hi~guy
Due to the stock bios of gigabyte's laptop lack of the option "Secure boot" ,so we can't set it to disable to access efi shell.
But we need changes the value of variable on GRUB shell in order to re-flash the mod bios.

Now please view this thread and following its step at "5. Change BIOS Lock Variable" to bypass the secure boot to access GRUB shell then type
setup_var 0x17 0x0 to set up option "bios lock" to disable.(in your laptop bios lock's variable is 0x17 )
(If you don't do this step to disable bios lock ,the mod bios can't re-flash again ,so it's necessary.)

Notice : its run 03-BOOTUSB.bat = load Super-UEFIinSecureBoot-Disk_minimal_modded.zip with rufus.
Get UEFIinSecureBoot here.

After you done this process ,download this tool to dump bios and attach it.(Run dump.bat as administrator )
I would  try to edit it for you.

Oh, thx!

What's the difference between using AFUWIN and fpt (intel?) for the dump? Why do you prefer this second method?

No working /GAN parameter in AFUWIN for aptio v?

Thx!

If you confirm afuwin + /gan can flashing the mod bios ,you also can choose this way at your risk.

Ok, I will see... I don't want to break anything...   Big Grin

The point is, anyway the method to flash back the modded bios, as seen in the capture, how to replace first visible menu block (red) by the second hidden one (blue):

Because the entries in second block have at least the options present in first block, so I suspect is an entire "enhanced" menu version.

If I use UEFITool and extract Setup tree, and I use IFRExtract to get the offset of each menu entry, I get an empty list (bad luck):

Code:
                                   Form Sets
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Offset: Title:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0x26D80 Setup (0x7 from string package 0x0)

As shown in the capture only "Setup" root is shown (maybe I've extracted incorrect body... but not found another UEFI formed correct block).

Which would be the tool to unhide/replace menu entries...?  Changing Default by USER vi AMIBCP ?  Using another tool for injecting / replace entries (UEFITool, MMTOOL...)?

Thx !!

EDIT: Sorry, FULL Advanced menu, is nested to the "light" Advanced one:

EDIT 2: Some interesting config values:

I have my way to modify this bios ,i will inject three new tab they're advanced , chipset ,security.
The modify result should similar with this mod(AORUS X7 DT v8) ,on this mod i injected main ,advanced and chipset tabs.

And tell you a thing , this bios can't modify by amibcp.
You can edit anywhere within bios then save it ,it will show a message then you will know what i say.

Ok, I see. It seems that the procedure is hex editing AMITSE and/or Setup blocks after extracting using UEFITool, right ?

I see in other threads that people replaces those blocks in their particular dumps when the bios is compatible (same machine or very similar), but the question is, in my case that I would like to learn how to do it, What to find and what to replace. I've seen and understand the GUID codes for each menu entry (hidden or not, after using IRFExtractor), but not sure how to identify the exact point where replace those GUIDs.

Any help here is very welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, guys!

My laptop is a Gigabyte Aorus 15G XB, with FB06 bios version.

I tried to unlock hidden menus. I got it, but they now are mixed. Is anyway to show as different tabs?

I attached both. The original with gigabyte lock disabled (lockdisabled.bin) and the modded (modded.bin) .

Any help be good recieved, thanks !

Some questions.
1.Could you flashing your mod bios again? and how?

2.Does your mod unlocked anything in bios screen??

Thank you very much for your time

1. Yes, I could flashing again with FPT.

2. I think so. I modified it with UEFITool and hex editor. The problem is, for example, that appear only one main tab with menus of both tabs (old an new). That happen with all tabs (advanced, security ...). It's working but it's a bit confusing.
