Hello,

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor (1.3GHz/3MB L2/800MHz FSB)
GPU: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD & ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 512MB

Not sure about the chipset, one of these: GM45, GE45 or GS45.

I don't have the laptop on my hands right now, will have full certainty tomorrow.

Did you install Win7 at this laptop before?Or it is your first action?

1 GB RAM is not enough for WIn7..i suppose RAM upgrade not impossible at this laptop Sad

No, I haven't been able to install it at all. The original OS is how ever Windows 7 home premium 64bit. I work in computer repair shop and the laptop is our customer's.

The real problem in details is

1) the laptop works fine with a 1Gb memory module installed.
2) the laptop doesn't work with more then 1Gb RAM installed (U550's shipped with one 1Gb and one 2Gb modules installed)
3) the problem isn't in the installed OS (DVD booted windows setup also fails)
4) both RAM moduls are working properly (tested them on my other laptop)
5) both RAM slots are working properly (windows starts with 1Gb RAM module in either one of them)
6) there're no BIOS updates for Lenovo IdeaPad U550

7) works perfectly with Linux, with two 2Gb memory modules.

So there is not really any physical problem in this laptop. And it's driving me crazy Big Grin hoping that maybe modded BIOS can solve this problem with more options related to ACPI. It is so sad that Lenovo doesn't offer BIOS update for this model. I have been searching through the Internet about this and this is not the only case with same problem.

EDIT: So when I add more RAM than 1Gb, the BSOD appears with "BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant" text. 1Gb really isn't enough for win7 to work properly.

Hmm..you have a BSOD with stop 7e error, right?
I have same error when try to install win XP, only vista and newer can be installed at laptop. I know it vendor Insyde restrict to install specific OS.
You can install win 7 with disabled ACPI. Can you remember, how many cores of CPU were in Device Manager before?

I found solution.
Laptops based at Insyde bioses have one option is ACPI selection.
My laptop can change between 3 versions are 1.0b, 3.0 and 4.0. 4.0 version is necessary for successful installing win7.
Your bios contains inly one hidden Tab is Advanced.
I give look at options and found your laptop support only 2 versions are 1.0b and 3.0. You can try to install win XP.

Yes that is the error.

How can I install Win7 without ACPI? I thought it is impossible. This laptop came in our repair shop on thursday so I really can't give you fact about the cores, but my strong doubt is that all of the two cores were enabled.

I've tried everything with this and spent hours to make it work. I promised my customer that I would make it work so you guys are really my last chance for it Smile  otherwise I have to give up.

Installing XP fails too with more than 1Gb RAM. Only Linux works.

Oh shoot, so you are telling me that there is absolutely nothing we can do? Can you anyway unlock the BIOS so I could even give that one last shot.
