Bios mod can be flashed using SPI-programmer+SOIC8 clip only

The guide I'm following has me backing up the BIOS twice, first with the Intel FPT Tool Software, and then again with the programmer/clip on the actual hardware. Which one do you need? I have the programmer and everything already.
