[REQUEST] SLGEJ (Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000) for Asus N61VN

Hi.

I’m trying to update the CPU on an ASUS N61VN - JX098V with an Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9000 Mobile (SLGEJ), but with no success.
The laptop is running latest bios version 209 (2009/12/15).

The issue: laptop turns on; goes thru POST ok and can enter bios ok, but when it tries to boot into windows it freezes during loading. If I try to install windows or boot any PE, same thing happens.

I’m hoping it could be just the need to ither update or add the microcode of this CPU to the bios (and not an actual fault with the CPU).

Could anyone please check this bios and see if it would be possible to update/add this CPU microcode to it?

Show a good photo of your Q9000 from top.
Make a screenshot of BIOS page with CPU information.
And I need to see photos of the sticker on AC/DC adapter and on slots for memory.

In hopes it was an issue with the CPU, I bough a second one; sadly, it makes exactly the same anomaly; boots fine into the bios; but freezes when trying to boot windows or any PE; even trying to boot a windows install crashes the machine. And yet, it still works fine with the stock CPU.

I find it odd that this laptop is supposed to come from factory with this CPU installed, and yet I can get it to work. I find it even more strange that two different CPU’s would have the exact same problem.
Starting to think that it could be something with the motherboard, but then again, the machine works fine with the stock CPU (P8800).

All of these are supposed to be supported by it:
Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9000 : 2 GHz ;
Intel Core2 Duo Processor T9600/P8800/P7450/T6600 : 2.8 GHz - 2.2 GHz

Correct?

I also tried different power adapters, and different memory sizes/speeds. No change.

What could be causing this anomaly? Sure that a bios microcode update wouldn’t fix this?

Ideas to try and fix this? I am now stuck with two CPU’s… Sad

It's hardware problem, any BIOS mod will not help.

What kind of hardware problem? Because the motherboard works fine with any other CPU I put in it (I tried P8800, P7450 and T6600); expect the Q9000; and I tried two, and both have the same anomaly.

What kind of fault would cause the CPU to post to BIOS, but hang while trying to boot windows? I triple checked the motherboard and couldn’t find anything wrong with it; nothing damaged, nothing missing, voltages are all normal; I reflashed the bios with a programmer just to be sure; and still nothing.

I’m really lost with this one. Any suggestions on what could be the origin of the problem? To me this really feels like a software issue…if having both motherboard and CPU working fine separately but not together, feels like some kind of incompatibility (which doesn’t make sense) or something missing. 

Any sugestions or ideas would be more then welcome.
