Surface Laptop SE - UEFI Dump / Edit (?)
#1
Hi,

this Laptop has a UEFI chip by "GigaDevice" - 25LB128DSIG [128Mbit (16MBytes)].

Dumping it with Universal Bios Tool (8mb and 16mb) does indeed show most of its contents.

The cab/BIN file can be downloaded via "Microsoft Update Catalog" (look for 5.8.139.0)

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com...20firmware

The downloaded cab file has a 8mb BIN file in it, which does indeed look like the UEFI content.

I tried to open it with UEFI TOOL, but it hands out some errors which I dont understand.

Found some "results" via bios-mods archive :
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/archive/...34929.html

Still shows some stuff that can be recognized, like IntelGraphicsPeim (Pre EFI Initialization Module) or PE32 Image (MZ) Executables,
or 32-bit PEI executables with their "VZL" header, which can all be extracted and the DXE Runtime Drivers :

Still, together with the errors, I dont see any way (easy) extracting logos (yet) or modifying things,
yet safely flashing it back this way.

I read about "graphics extraction & editing here and found the black&white Windows logo at 7BB28B99-61BB-11D5-9A5D-0090273FC14D.
So would this be a "standard value" for UEFI Logos that need to be placed there ?

https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comm...lash_page/

I was able to find various graphics further down in RAW format as well. But this way it feels quite like a treasure hunt. Smile

So I wonder, would there be any other windows based UEFI dump / editing tools around ? Especially for boot logos only ?

I learned that "File Type" 19h, File->Freeform / Section->Raw = mostly ends up as a BITMAP file...but not all the time.
I found like 10 graphics inside, manually searching the long list. But there must be more ?

Would also be nice to know if there is a blacklist/whitelist inside, so I cna exchange the crappy Realtek 8822CE.

Im also not even sure if this would be a Intel based BIOS, a special MS BIOS...AMI...

Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
