(UEFI) Dell XPS 15z L511z modded BIOS - and HOWTO
Yeah, that's adequate.

Here's an example of same module (PlatformSmm) which is different in size going from one version to another. You have my A13 at hand, try swapping out the module from A13 (16992 bytes) with the one from A04 (17,056 bytes)
This has to be reintegrated to fix sleep/wake cycle for OSX.

The PlatformSmm that I have from your A13 is 17024 bytes. Is that normal?

I just looked again .. i may have mixed up the a07 and a13 modules. So the ones i've attached are from a04 and a07, not a13 as stated. a13 is indeed 17024 bytes.

I think you forgot to attach the files Wink

Oh blimey .. sorry. The file was too large to attach and I forgot to paste the link...

Included are bios versions a04, a07 and a13.
The PlatformSmm module is of different size in each of these versions.
I thought it might be useful for your 'different size module replacement' research.

Just as a quick note guys, posting a reply should be pretty instantaneous now.

Awesome =)

Thanks, that was very useful! I've just rewritten part of my code and it should deal with injecting different sized modules back into the WPH. PhoenixTool 2.11 recognises this as a valid WPH file (haven't tried 2.02) and I can still see the PlatformSmm.efi in the WPH. I would be grateful if you have a look at the generated file and see if there's anything wrong with it. I've attached the WPH file.
I'll compile a new version of my program for windows after I sleep as windows is playing up and won't connect to the internet at the moment...

@nebster
The rom posted is absolutely fine. All the modules are in place (checked what happened to those with no actual unicode name string - all fine), it can be decompressed by PhoenixTool 2.02 and it even booted Ubuntu 12.04 while having the rom as a recovery capsule. So I call the algo reworks a success Smile

Hi all

Quick update on the HD3000 voltages. It turns out that the VDD for Intel vbios is set at motherboard level (which should be 1.1V). Most likely the only way we can get to this setting is via ME (which would also unlock overclocking/volting at CPU level as well), unless this is set in BIOS.WPH.

Bottom line:
lower mobo voltage - better temp stability @2D work (and OSX) usage & longer battery life
higher mobo voltage - better 2D/3D performance but higher temps & battery consumption
but we probably need to unlock ME first!

Meh, so we are stuck at something again ... this time its trickier because if we fail at flashing ME - we fail hard. I wonder if the firmware is actually documented somewhere because Lenovo just offers the download package for the end-user to flash, meaning its really easy to get hold of.
