(UEFI) Dell XPS 15z L511z modded BIOS - and HOWTO
#91
Your setup module is totally different from the one i`m modifying .
I don`t use hex search tool but i sort all modules by size and get the setup module as it begins with strings and i knew several thing that make me sure its setup module not other one .
also when i open the 3rd file of the module which holds its name , the name is platform advanced setup and this is what i need .
your module size is 277KB You can easily find it .

i will make another 2 or 3 mods now for the Jkbuha to try as i have disassembled his module and managed to do some changes in it ......... then i will make all mods into your modules to try if you want that .

edit: didnt saw your post, thanks for the info, I will wait or will try stuff by myself if info is provided from the other bios Smile

I have to say the Xsearch tool works great and save a lot of work while searching stuff

omg, I am reading a lot of voltage,BCLK, clock control, cpu frecuency and overclock strings while hexviewing that file,I'm almost sure those awesome hidden menus are there! that made me dream a little about BIOS CPU overcloking features Big Grin

anway I will wait till you relase the bios for the xps 15z one

by the way , most of these options don`t work for notebook Big Grin Big Grin but may be UEFI is different and it will work Smile
Ok , found that menus are the same for both bioses but some routines are different .
As Jkbuha is busy , i will do mods on your bios to try it faster while the routines mods will still be made in Jkbuha`s Bios .

lets hope it will work Tongue
I think the XPS laptops are the previous line before the high performance/gamming and bios unlocked alienware laptop computers, so it may be posible to get unlocked options from the bios like the alienware laptops.

I also the XPS 15 is also a little more powerfull than the XPS 15z, and it have less overheating problems since the extra casing room and heatsink distribution.

also dell's official site says xps 15z is more oriented to portability (really slim design), and xps 15z is a little more oriented to performance than portability.

I think also some ppl from the notebook review forums said that.

Hi all!

I have been searching around the .rom files with Windows Grep, have found interesting stuff such as fan trip points for high/low and use of "+" "-" keys to control these values. (Possible BIOS setting???)

I'm not sure what values to change as it is only telling me what "things" can be done!!

Anyway keep up the great work guys!! Smile

P.S. Are we any closer with BIOS recovery if something goes wrong?

hey Matrix5 , glad you decided to register and follow this topic too , welcome to the boat mate Smile

where did you found that? what file is it?

well, you are at the same point I am atm ^_^

saw a lot of interesting stuff but have no idea about how to unlock those features instead keep the bios locked like a kidtoy with two big buttons and with almost no settings.

maybe ahmed can help us after he check the xps 15z bios ^_^

Hi Kasar!

lol, it is the same file as has already been found above^^! I guess I got a little bit carried away! Blush Found them using a combination of Windows GREP, HxD and pure luck! Big Grin

All these features do hold a lot of potential - like a kidtoy with only a few buttons!

On a side note: The guys as Speedfan (don't quote me) *might* be working on improved fan control in the XPS; many of the previous betas have focused on enhancing Dell Support. I recieved an email after sending in a report and the guy told me that the XPS accesses temps differently and it needs some ajustments. Because the BIOS file lists the trip points for off/low/high, maybe software is a better workaround for fan control HuhHuh

Congrats on the work done so far guys & fast reply Kasar!!^^ Smile

No worries Ahmed - I'm back home for now, so I can patch your BIOS mods in quickly, but don't feel obliged to work on my stuff - bring kasar up to speed as well Smile

Cheers
