VAIO BIOS: flashing wrong ROM file
#1
Hello,

Last two days I had an adventure with my VAIO SVE1511NFXS when I was trying to unlock the bios advanced menu I found in this forum someone confirms unlocked version for my laptop, I downloaded it and flashed my bios, then I restarted my laptop and once it's shut down to reboot it's totally dead and shut down, then the laptop is not starting any more, neither via the power button nor the assist button, the laptop became totally dead! I tried every possible way to have my laptop powering but it's not anymore.

I took it to my friend who is working with laptop hardware maintenance, he opened my laptop, and removed the bios chip from the motherboard, and we tried to find an original full backup for my bios over the internet but we didn't manage!

we only found backup for the laptop model SVE15128CXS, both laptop have almost same specs, but not identical, we take the risk and flashed that one on the bios chip via his tools, then re-installed the chip on the motherboard, now the laptop is powering on, and running normally, but whenever I tried to enter to the bios menu it's showing only blank screen, and when I use the assist menus it shows that my laptop model is SVE15128CXS.

Now my laptop booting and I can use it, but it's not in the optimal state. How can I re flash my bios with the original version of the bios?

I tried to download the bios update which provided on Sony website: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-downlo...roup_id=24

But it's not accepting to flash it giving the error that this flash it not for my laptop model (as the model number changed when we flashed the bios with different model bios backup file)

I can extract the file R0200E5.bin from the above Sony flash file, but don't know how to force flashing it! and if I did will it allow my bios to work again? or we should get full backup from similar laptop (which not looks to be easy unless if there is someone who can help)?

Also I have to mention that the full backup file which we flashed from the alternate model was sized about 8 MB, while the file R0200E5.bin which provided by Sony in the above link is only 3MB.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance!

here is another update:

while trying to reflash my original .ROM file into my VAIO laptop, when trying to flash using InsydeFlash v5.06 I receive the error: IHSI: Flash write error in SM!! SMI return error code 0x25, when trying using InydeFlash v5.4.4.1 I receive the error: it only supports to flash secure bios on current platform, the image to be updated is not a secure bios!

When trying Flashit via DOS I get the error This Rom isn´t correct Error: Rom size 300000 Current Bios size: 800000

Any one knows how to overcome this issue?

Ok friend,
I will try to help You, but I think You have to re-write using HW PPRG to do It.
Use this tool run It as Admin and upload here the result file :

http://rghost.net/58219938

I need some infos about your Eeprom Chip and hope this tool can give to me or
let me know Eeprom Chip Model, how MBits, Manufacturer ?
I will give to You a Bios Backup to rewrite into Eeprom and We have to hope that It
will be enough.

Hi my friend,

really sorry for being late as I was almost fed up getting any reply here, and today I just rechecked this topic to find that you replied to me.

I am uploading the file you requested and I really appreciate your welling to help.

Here is the file link: https://www.sendspace.com/file/0bp5vz

In the meanwhile, is not there any way where I can do it directly by flashing the bios without having to disassemble my laptop again? like creating a new .bin file based on the update which sony provides in this link as I mentioned earlier? http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-downlo...roup_id=24

Thanks again.

Thanks my friend for your support, but it's hard for me at the moment to reach to my other friend who is able to get this backup for you, can I use specific software to get this backup for you? like using Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit? or other similar software?
