Here is the BIOS direct download link.

I am also after a hacked BIOS for this laptop so I can enable AMD-V

I tried Fn + Tab trick to make advanced BIOS menu appear after reboot. Didn't do anything.

So I figured I need a hacked BIOS. Tried to do one myself by:

Changing platform.ini:

[Bios_Version_Check]
Flag=2

to

Flag=0

so I can downgrade to 1.09 (was on 1.13)

And then running:

C:\Users\ben\Desktop\ZABA_109\bios_extract>main.py ZABA.fd
Opened BIOS 'ZABA.fd' with md5:2d16ffa9d1d316e8cf5e88a84f63f5e5
Operating on BIOS data/original_bios_backup1.fd size = 0x8b29d0
Loading compressed sections
 .. found 22 compressed sections
Locating Firmware Volumes
  .. found 6 FirmwareVolumes (1 compressed)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "C:\Users\ben\Desktop\ZABA_109\bios_extract\main.py", line 473, in <module>
    main()
  File "C:\Users\ben\Desktop\ZABA_109\bios_extract\main.py", line 468, in main
    bios = BIOS(sys.argv[1])
  File "C:\Users\ben\Desktop\ZABA_109\bios_extract\main.py", line 259, in __init__
    setup_utility = self.locate_setup_utility(vol_compr)
  File "C:\Users\ben\Desktop\ZABA_109\bios_extract\main.py", line 408, in locate_setup_utility
    raise RuntimeError("Shouldn't get here, seems we couldn't "
RuntimeError: Shouldn't get here, seems we couldn't find the SetupUtility :/

As you can see, couldnt extract the setup utility out to hack it (was going to do something like described at https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-U...725?page=2)

I've attached all files used to this post (bios, flasher, python scripts)

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers
Ben

Sorry I realized I forgot the rom I had in the zip file I attached.

Here is the official 1.13 I downloaded from Acer (The process to get this file involves running their exe and quickly copying the ZABA.fd file that appears for a short while.

Now here's one that a nice chap on this board sent me.
I ran some tool called Universal Bios Backup (as admin) which produced a file called InsydeCorp.-V1.13.rom

Note: I had some trouble running Universal Bios Backup with Windows 10 Pro (would get error "Can not identify the BIOS!") so to run it I had to use a Live CD Win 7 which worked great.

I then sent him InsydeCorp.-V1.13.rom and he sent back the attached file.

Now I ran the Acer flashing utility (H2OFFT-Wx64.exe) with the modded rom in the same directory. At first it appeared to accept and started the reboot flash process.
Unfortunately though when it went to actually flash it showed me a blue screen with the message:

                             InsydeH20 - Secure Flash
                         Error : Invalid firmware image!!!

                  Please press any key to reset the system......

The chap said what I really need to do is this process:

1. Copy the BIOS file to an empty and with FAT16/32 formatted usb stick.
2. Unplug the AC adapter.
3. Remove the battery of the notebook - you can unlock the battery on the backside.
4. Plug in the USB flash disk.
5. Press and hold <Fn> and <Esc>, and then plug in the AC adapter while still holding <Fn> and <Esc>.
6. Press the Power button. You can now stop holding <Fn> and <Esc>.
7. The BIOS flash should now begin, the fans will spin up at max speed and the power led should blink. It should take between one to two minutes.
8. After everything is done, you can reinsert the battery and go to the BIOS (F2). There you may want to change some settings (the BIOS flash erases all previously chosen settings).

I put the fd file on the USB stick and tried various key combination / power on's but no luck. Problem may be that this laptop doesn't have a removable battery so there's no way to follow these iinstructions as far as I can see.

After this he said the only way to do this was with a SPI programmer so I gave up.

Hopefully someone comes up with a working solution. We have the official rom: ZABA.fd, we just need a modded version that the Acer flash will accept.

Ben
