A7N8X-LA by HP BIOS unlock

(06-03-2010, 03:11 AM)f3bandit Wrote: The HP bios roms are the same there are no settings or options to unlock or enable. you will have to find the original board on the asus site before it was re-branded for HP. And then we will go from there! Big Grin
You don't have to do it tonite as I read you @ work. but no worries we will be here. And we aren't going anywhere! Big Grin

Actually that will be nearly impossible, long long ago back in the day I was hoping for the same thing as LLwelyn was looking for (a unlocked bios) and I was hunting for anything that would allow me to dive into it to get some just basic BIOS settings that allmost all MB's have like just simple memory timings alone to change and I could never find nothing for this board. Confused
Well to make a long story short.... I talked directly to some people at ASUS and they dropped a bomb on me, its a completely proprietary MB that ASUS made exclusively for HP. They are yes identical to the -VM model and I mean right down to each chip. But I think HP did something to this MB to stop anyone playing with it, but I could be wrong...
I got nVidia's nTune program and when I go into it as just like the bios allmost everything is locked down but I noticed something odd. Wacked out reported voltage cores, insane fan speeds (like 20k RPM!) and I wish I didnt see this stuff cuz it makes me think that HP changed something down at the chipset level, Now nTune allows me to change memory timings which is a good thing for me as I have pc3200 Corsair ram in it and I was able to use its SPD 8-3-3-3 timings vs the HP bios of 7-3-3-3 and able to kick up my FSB a little but and get just a little more oomph out of this board. But if anyone can unlock any thing in this BIOS oh man finally after 4 years a nice dream would come true as I would love to be able to at least adjust my voltages. Keep up the good work and have a drink on me everyone. Big Grin I also need to take my northbridge sink off and check the exact N-B chip and verify if its a 400 or 333 chip. Because if it is the 400 Im going to drop a Athlon XP 3300+ in it.

By the way is there a AMIBCP out there that supports editing the 4mb BIOS?

Glad to see that some people also do want to overclock their HP computer :p (which one do you have btw?)

I will test anyway the modded bios because I can't stand HP's locks... It's our computer, we do whatever we want with it !
And I don't think that HP would have modified all the motherboards they receive... 0,1% of the buyers would think in overclocking and even less in reflashing the mb with a modded bios... So it's not worth the shot to do something inside the MB... Smile

Hope that your work is in progress f3bandit and MrTangoWhisky!!

I got a a320n pavilion, got rid of my IDE for a SATA card and a 6800 Ultra with a custom heatsink designed by my brother and I.

Not yet, it's not so easy to get this board for cheap. Sad

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

I am waiting for a response from TheWiz myself on the matter, As I only know the jist of the advanced concepts of module swapping. I mainly do the Slic mods and advanced feature unlocking in the AMI roms. I am vague on this type of advanced unlocking. sorry lol. but we are working on it! Big Grin

By requesting, downloading, and flashing a modified
bios you are held responsible for what you choose
to do with it. flash at your own risk! And please

I found several, but quite too expensive! (or do you want to pay 100 plus shipping?) I keep searching!

I just went on my three month break, so I will be able to add this to my request pool and come up with a modded BIOS soon Smile
