Acer Aspire M5700 Enable VT
#1
I am trying to install Server 2008R2 and enable hyper-v on an acer Aspire M5700. I have done a little research and have found that Acer, at least the model I have, does not support virtualization. Does anyone know were I can find a Bios that would unlock this for me.

Here is the information I have on it:

System:

Acer Aspire M5700
System Serial Number: PTSB90X0099290BFFE2700
Enclosure Type: Desktop

Main Circuit Board:

Board: Acer EG45M
Bus Clock: 333 megahertz
BIOS: Acer R01-A2 09/08/2009

Processor:

2.50 gigahertz Intel Core2 Quad Q8300
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (4 total)
Not hyper-threaded

I pretty sure it can be done because we had a guy that used to work at our company that was able to unlock it on the exact same machine but he does not work for us anymore.

Any Help would be appreciated. ( I am new to this forum. I hope I posted this in the correct place)

By any chance, did the guy at this work mention if it was a completly different BIOS or not. Please post a detailed spec analysis of the mobo and I'll take a look.

I will when I get it back from Acer. I flashed it with the wrong BIOS and fried it. It’s still under warranty so I am sending it back to ACER. I told them it just stopped working and they sent me all the RMA info.
The other Acer I was referring to was purchased at the same time and was sent in the same boxes when they arrived. However, I was able to get a hold of him and he told me it was an AMD board and I have an Intel so I was wrong about that part. This Acer only cost the company like 500 bucks but I’m sure the processor is able to handle VT it’s a 2.50 gigahertz Intel Core2 Quad Q8300. I will try and get all the specs from the mobo when I get it back from Acer. BTY how do I get all the specs from the motherboard. Is there a utility that I can run that will give me detailed information?
Thanks,
Rob

Everest Ultimate is a good way to go, also should be on the acer support site.

You know, it's possible that your Q8300 processor doesn't have VT support...

Hello, Vernaides it believe it supports VT. Here are the specs: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=39107#specs I believe it depends on if the vendor puts in the correct BIOS. Hypothetically speaking I could take this processor and put it on a motherboard that supports VT and it will be good to go right?

What’s up Wiz,
I gave you a small donation for helping me out. I’m sure I can use the help in the future.

Thanks,
Rob
