Lenovo T410s 2912-2bu whitelist
#1
Hi,

I purchased the SOIC8 from Amazon and thought the rest would be easy. I have a minute of 80286 assembler experience writing serial port drivers and a general understanding of the current problem. Then I discovered the software tools are hard to find and I lack an adequate understanding of the process. Then I found your site.

If you can point me to linux or bsd apps that I could use to read/write the bios I would be happy to give it a go. But, if you also have a working bios file I would be willing to beg for a copy.

I noticed a few files mentioned on this site, but they were from the distant past and no longer available.

Thanks,

Gerald.

I forgot to mention that I think I found the schematics for my laptop at https://thetechstall.com/lenovo-thinkpad...ic-diagram.

I also used my CH341A and flashrom to download the bios. At first I had the following results:

Code:
flashrom -p ch341a_spi -r bios1.img
flashrom v1.2 on Linux 6.5.0-25-generic (x86_64)
flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org
Using clock_gettime for delay loops (clk_id: 1, resolution: 1ns).
Found Macronix flash chip "MX25L6405" (8192 kB, SPI) on ch341a_spi.
Found Macronix flash chip "MX25L6405D" (8192 kB, SPI) on ch341a_spi.
Found Macronix flash chip "MX25L6406E/MX25L6408E" (8192 kB, SPI) on ch341a_spi.
Found Macronix flash chip "MX25L6436E/MX25L6445E/MX25L6465E/MX25L6473E/MX25L6473F" (8192 kB, SPI) on ch341a_spi.
Multiple flash chip definitions match the detected chip(s): "MX25L6405", "MX25L6405D", "MX25L6406E/MX25L6408E", "MX25L6436E/MX25L6445E/MX25L6465E/MX25L6473E/MX25L6473F"
Please specify which chip definition to use with the -c <chipname> option.

Then I retried and named each of the flash chips mentioned in the above message, followed by a diff across all four of the resulting files. There seemed to be no difference in the read of each of them.

If I am reading the schematics correctly (a big if), the chip in question is labeled as MACRONIX MX25L6405DZNI-12G.

Not sure what the best software is for reading or modifying this file, so I will continue to study until a solution is found.

Thank you again,
Gerald.
