Clevo NH70RH
#1
Hi,

I am working on Clevo NH70RH.

The laptop has faulty GPU. I have removed the coils and GPU is now disabled. Machine boots but I do get same symptoms as described below:

- Fast fan spin followed by machine going OFF

I found a thread on badcaps in regards to other Clevo laptop suggesting this would be the BIOS issue and NVIDIA GPU has to be disabled from within the hidden BIOS settings (basically BIOS has to be edited).

BIOS editing methodes described in this thread seem to fit AMI BIOS. My machine has Insyde.

While googling I have found a tool called IFR Extractor. Using this tool I scanned my BIOS dump and found this:

OneOf Prompt: "Show GRAPHICSMODESWITCH item", Help: "Show GRAPHICSMODESWITCH item TYPE 1 MSHYBRID/DGPU MODE/ TYPE 2 IGD/MSHYBRID MODE / TYPE 3 ALL TYPE 4 HIDDEN.", QuestionFlags: 0x10, QuestionId: 0xC6F, VarStoreId: 0x1234, VarOffset: 0x14F, Flags: 0x10, Size: 8, Min: 0x0, Max: 0x3, Step: 0x0
OneOfOption Option: "TYPE 1" Value: 0
OneOfOption Option: "TYPE 2" Value: 1
OneOfOption Option: "TYPE 3" Value: 2
OneOfOption Option: "TYPE 4" Value: 3, Default, MfgDefault

It seems there is an option in my BIOS to disable NVIDIA graphics but I have no clue how to do this. I have tried work this out with multiple AI models to no success. Could someone please help.

// EDIT: 01 May 2025 //

I am very sorry I think I have posted this thread in the wrong section of the forum. Moderators - please move it somewhere else if essential. BTW I have found the solution to my problem but please do not delete the thread. In next couple of days I will post the solution + tools I have used to get there. Maybe it will help someone to save another Clevo machine in the future.

Thank you all.
