Dell Precision T7400 bios Rom
#1
Hi,

I have read the forum and a lot of other web site, about how to unlock option in the dell precision T7400.

Because i use two X5472 CPU and they have the coefficien multiplication unlocked and want to get more power if possible.

I have done the extraction of the T7400A07.rom from the .EXE bios update file.

But to edit it or how to understand how it work in this file, its another way.

Does someone already try the same thing?

Thanks

PS: sorry for my poor english, i am from france but try to get better in english.

Hi,

After more research, i was looking to try replace the dell bios by an true Intel bios from the Intel S5400SF who where similare.
But on the intel board they are graphic integrated (not on the dell) and i think, it will crach the dell board if try use the intel bios on it.

The dell Board seems to be build by Dell and not build by Intel and rebranded Dell.

CPU-Z MB indentifier give ma that:

MB: Dell Inc . 0RW199 no other information.
It seems that some people have success modifie the dell T7400 bios for SLIC 2.1, but i am not looking for tis but looking to modify the CPU multiplier to get more Mhz (possible on X54xx xeon version)

Will search more and see^^

Except for a select few dells which use an Award bios , most of them use a unique format called "Dell Phoenix". normal phoenix bios editing tools wont open these bioses and theres not a lot we can do with them n terms of unlocking.

If you can post the BIOS download link or attach the .ROM to your post then we will be happy to take a look

Hi,

In a first time, thanks for your interest about this thread.

Ok, here you can found the link to the last bios for the Dell Precision T7400, its the A07 version: (the link is for 64bits OS, for windows 7 i select VISTA64 it work)

Link For T7400A07 Bios

To extract the rom, just go in CLI and type:

bios_file_name.EXE -writeromfile

It will extract the Rom from the EXE package.

I put in attachement T7400A07 rom

Thanks

Hi,

I have some news about try to overclock this platform.

I have success overclock the Motherboard Bus using SetFSB.

Choice :

ICS932S421BGLF (clockgen) normally for the D5400XS intel motherboard.

The probleme is with my X5472 CPU running already at 1600Mhz FSB, to go upper maybe 1700Mhz FSB is too high and will crach certainly.

So if somebody success modifiy the bios too just change the Ratio of the CPU, the bus will stay at 1600Mhz, it will be fine.

I will post how much i can go up the FSB.

I would strongly recommend using SetFSB instead of a bios mod. Also , i cant open this bios in Phoenix Bios editor to unlock setting anyway

Ok, a little sad that they have really lock the bios :..(

I have test SetFSB on two platform:

Precision 490:
DDR2 at bus 1333Mhz
CPU 5110 at 1,6Ghz bus 1066Mhz

Success up to 2Ghz Bus at 1333 for CPU and RAM

[img][Image: cpuds.jpg][/img]

But on platform Precision T7400

RAM: FB DIMM NANIA 800 running at 1600Mhz
CPU: X5472 quad core 3Ghz fsb at 1600Mhz

Can not get upper 1630Mhz FSB or Fail direct

Thx for your reply

I will continue too find a solution, because nothing is impossible ^^

Your computer have Dell BIOS. It's completely different than Phoenix BIOS. I hasn't found anyone was able to unlock Dell BIOS yet.

Hi,

I have found on the web that people have succes put SLIC 2.1 for the bios version A04 for this machine.

Link for the SLIC:

http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-De...l-2-1-SLIC

My question is have they need to open bios to do this or is it a different method than for unlocking?

I have read that in the past there were an utility called Delldeco to open the dell bios (decompileur?) but cannot find it today (will look more on the web to try find it)

Regards

Tom

Yes both mods are not use same method.

BIOS rom is in compressed format. It's actually contains several modules. Each modules have their own function. All modules are in binary. For SLIC mods, there are tools for that. Unlocking BIOS still require traditional method; manual HEX editing. Without knowing where the setup table is located, it is difficult to unlock the BIOS.
