Hi friend,
i posted Kemod Tutorial to show how He did it !
Only Hardware Programmer let You flash the Eeprom, so You can try that method alternative, but none has got succesful than author.
I suggest to buy an SPIPGM with POMONA Soic clip and ask for whitelist remove mod.

Thanks a lot for this tutorial and the excellent pictures and explanation!

I want to do this without de-soldering (using the usb clip), because I'm afraid I would damage the motherboard.
Can anybody share his experience about using the usb clip?

That current-overload message sounds scary, can it brick the laptop? A small section about the usb-clip would be great, thanks!

Don't be afraid friend, there is no reason to be scared !
It's not dangerous for You and for laptop as You don't feel the low voltage
need to write Eeprom and hardware is switched off (any current flow trough
the CPU and EC, only on Bios Eeprom from SPI Programmer by the clip.
Only You have respect the 1st Pin on Chip with the clip.
Have You tried to use for backup your bios ? only in read phase ?

Hi, Kemod!

BDMaster suggested to ask you for help.

My Thinkpad x230 model 2325-AC7 stopped working after unsuccessful bios upgrade from 2.02 to 2.61. After post screen it began writing something, and moment after (I didn't catch that moment) x230 rebooted and nothing but flashing of LEDs happened.

I took my laptop to service because I didn't have needed equipment. As far as I could see, they desoldered MX25L6406E chip and probably tried to write something in. They didn't read anything before unfortunately.

Repair was not successful and laptop was returned to me. Then I found guy, with more enthusiasm, and now we are trying to make x230 work.
We manage to read MX25L3206E, and I posted *.bin content here:

http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Th...2-to-v2-61

Does anybody know how to extract 4MB and 8MB file from *.fl1 and *.fl2 ?

Is it possible that bios for x230T (without white list) is the same as for x230?

Regards!

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to solder a smd dip socket (see here) to use the dip version of the bios rom ? Is there enough room, and are the dimensions of the sop soldering pads on the mainboard compatible with the dimensions of smd dip socket (tails in or out ?) ?

Kind regards,

Kind regards,

The real problem is to find Eeprom Dip version as are all in SMD format,
so You have to sold a socket ICS8 on board and not always there is space
enough to do It.
Then buy an adapter 8 Pin SOIC to DIP8 Adapter and solc chip on.

Look here :

Well, maybe I should have asked my question differently : is there a solution to have a socketed Eeprom in thinkpad X230 / X230 T ?

By the way : I had an other idea to avoid the laptop dissassembly each time a bios mod is needed : have an external connector wired to the soic.
If anybody can think of how to do it properly (I was thinking about modifying the palmrest as it seems the soic is just underneath or maybe do something with this useless touchpad that Lenovo introduced on this laptop) ...

Finally can someone test coreboot on X230 / X230T regarding wifi whitelist ?

Regards

You can llok here as Donovan has done on an HP and I on a Toshiba :

http://donovan6000.blogspot.it/

The problem as CodeRush said is that Eeprom have to stay very close to Chipset to be programmed and using a Pomona Soic Clip is very difficult that It will work !
I have got many problems to rewrite It and can do thanks a goos SPI programmer.
