GA-X58A-UD3R 1.0 VT-d option?
#1
Hey all,

I'm trying to wrap my head around something.
I have a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Rev 1.0 that doesn't seem to support VT-d.

Accord to the internets the Rev 2.0 of the motherboard supports VT-d via a BIOS update. ( http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=6834.0 )
So two questions in case someone can help out.

1) Is it possible to mod or find a modded version of a 1.0 BIOS with VT-d enabled?
2) Is it possible to crossflash the Rev 2.0 BIOS onto my 1.0 and where should I start reading to get this done?

I have searched for couple of hours but BIOS related sites are not what I'd call very organized. :/
So I have to apologize if something was staring me right in the eye.

Thank you all in advance. Smile

I would also like to know if this is possible, I haven't seen a rev 1.0 version of BIOS that supports this as yet.

Does anyone know if there is there a way to port this function to a rev 1.0 BIOS?

Gigabyte was more than helpful on this matter.

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. Since Intel 5 / 6 series does not natively support VT-d Technology, it may cause some compatibility issue during usage. If you want to use VT-d Technology, attached is the latest beta version BIOS for the motherboard. You should be able to update it and try again later. After bios updating, please do not forget to load BIOS fail-safe default setting.

For more information about how to do BIOS update, please kindly refer to motherboard user manual or please click HERE.

Please note that this product doesn't support VT-d natively, we cannot guarantee this function could work after BIOS update.

Regards,
GIGABYTE

Vt-d works as expected on Vmware's ESXI 5.0 and 5.1 (5.1 has some issues but unrelated with the vt-d enabling).
Also I've noticed some delay (1min?) after the "Verifying DMI pool data" when booting but that might be just me not having the time to properly config my devices.

Other than that everything seems to be working perfectly, I've been running it for couple of days with no issues.
