HP Proliant Microserver AMI BIOS MOD
#1
Hi guys.
Recently I opened the ROM file for my AMI BIOS upgrade (I have got an HP ProLiant Microserver with AMD RS785E chipset) via AMIBCP and found out that there is an option "Able to change freq" which is set to "hidden". There are also more hidden features. I would like to know if it is as simple as enabling that option and flashing BIOS with that modded ROM file, or are there any things which should I know first? Because I have got very limited options in BIOS now. The best would if any of you could pre-patch it for me (I attached the ROM file below) thanks

It needs to be done by hand or amibcp will corrupt you bios.

Thanks for your reply. Could you please tell me what do you mean by that "it needs to be done by hand"? Does it mean that I have to flash it by 3rd-party tools? Because I´m really a newbie in this. Thanks Smile
Guys, I would also like to ask how to prepare for BIOS recovery in case something goes wrong. I read about various methods like putting a file AMIBOOT.ROM (or something like that) to a floppy disk, but since my computer doesn´t have a floppy disk drive, is it possible to recover it by putting that file onto a usb stick? Thanks

Wow, thank you! Just a one question before flashing: do I have to flash it by some special way or just as a normal Bios update? Thanks.

In terms of bios recovery, this article's procedure should give you a good method to recover in case something goes awry.

As for flashing, I would recommend following the standard bios update method if there is one for the proliant. If you have the VGA connector you could use AFUDOS off a bootable USB as well.

Hi,

do you see any chance to enable S3 (Sleep) in this BIOS? It's supported by the MB, but HP only enabled S4 (Hibernate), making WoL unuseable from Linux and similar OS. There are literally 100s of users desperate to get this fixed!

The homeservershow community has asked me to look into that issue as well, which I will look into. Please note however, WoL can work from any state, not just sleep. WOL can work form shutdown states to sleep states as well, given you have magic packets correctly configured on your BIOS/OS.

Warm Regards,
TheWiz
