Need help updating bios. EVGA nForce 590 SLI.
#1
I am trying to get an AMD X4 940 Pheonom II to work in my EVGA nForce 590 SLI Mobo like this:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Ph...SLI?page=2
I have run into a huge string of problems that I cant resolve using google.

First, I downloaded the latest bios from TheWiz.
Next, I went to the guide on how to create a bootable USB drive and followed it to the T, this is where the first problems have occured. I can not boot the USB drive. There is no option in my boot menu and I cant set it as a boot option from the bios. I've scoured the internet here and esspecially at the EVGA forums and cannot seem to find why its not an option, as obviosuly many others have successfully booted to usb with the same mobo. I have the latest offical bios currectly flashed from the EVGA website. That was a sinch to flash since all I needed to do was burn an ISO.

Please help.

Just an update.

I burned DOS to a bootable CD, and then burned the 612W2P36.bin and AWDFLASH.exe to a seperate CD. I booted to DOS, and then ran the AWDFLASH, everything went smoothly. It started to flash, and even finished, but immediately without prompt restart my computer, and now is stuck at a black screen.

Please follow the award bios recovery instructions which can be found on the main www.bios-mods.com site

Ok, well I started to follow the guide (which appears to have been written for laptops) and I haven't had much success with it.
http://www.bios-mods.com/phoenixrecovery.html
I downloaded and formated the floppy disc with the recovery software. I am on stop 5 and it doesn't appear to be working. Floppy inserted, I get no LEDS lit up or anything. My keyboard LEDS are also not lighting up (though my mouse is), which makes me think, how can I hold Win+B if the keyboard isn't even working?

Any ideas?

PHOENIX is NOT AWARD!
You got to differ between Phoenix and Phoenix-Award (Phoenix once bought them!)
The right procedure for you is here:

http://www.bios-mods.com/recovery.html

And just an other question, why did you create 2 disks, why not only one with all you need included?

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

I am back in here as I promised! Big Grin So tell me your needs!

Oh ok, that is a step in the right direction.

I've finished doing the second guide, however, it still doesn't seem to be doing anything. The Floppy disk drive isn't reading, peeping, blinking, or doing anything at all.
I have a an IDE floppy drive plugged in, a bootable DOS floppy disc inserted with the modified autoexec.bat, the bios.bin, and the awdflash.exe. My floppy drive isn't reading it though.

I created two discs because I wasn't having success making a bootable disc in nero, so I downloaded a bootable dos iso, booted from it, and then put in another disc and flash from it.

Hi NotAgOat,

Did you flash the retail EVGA BIOS without success or my own update? It looks like there is a possibility you didn't clear your CMOS, so I would do so from the main board as EVGAs update is different from your previous version.

I couldn't flash your update.

Are you talking about before or after the flash?

So you want me to try and clear it now, and then try and do the recovery? I tried clearing it once removing the battery for 30 seconds and It didn't seem to help, but I can try it again. And what do you mean the EVGA update is different from my previous one?

I'm sorry for being totally ignorant about this stuff, I've never really done it before.

No problem mate. Hopefully this will clear it up.

My update was attached in the dropbox link, you should've been able to find it on that thread. There are times where a board won't boot if the CMOS wasn't properly cleared. To try and verify this, there is normally a clear CMOS jumper on your motherboard that will reset the CMOS. Then see if you can boot up. If not, proceed attempting the award recovery instructions.

Yeah, It was your version of the bios that I used.

Today I cleared the CMOS by removing the battery for 10 mins and unplugging my PC. I tried again to use the recovery guide and nothing has changed. Nothing happens. The A floppy drive doesn't read or do anything at all.
