Dell Vostro 200 v1.0.16 Experimental Unlocking & Upgrading Project
#61
Hi all,

A mods BIOS 3rd is works fine with mine, I appreciate that.
I used at the OSX / 10.9.4.

Do me a favor, Would you make a AHCI bios for VOSTRO 400 and Inspiron 545 ?
I know this is old thread, I hope to someone see this...

Hi guys.
Has anyone tried to install more than 4GB RAM on Vostro 200 (0cu409) ? Could you please check it?
Thank you.

Greetings everyone,

One more reason to keep this Thread alive:
You can run Quad Core Xeon LGA 771 CPUs on Vostro 200

Xeon 771 is fast QUAD core on a low price (just gOOgle: LGA775 Support For LGA771 Xeon CPUs)
I just modified "Vostro200-1016-RAID87-AHCI10670-VGA1653-IBA1363 slic 2.1" one more time to be able to run Yorkfield-CL And Harpertown 45nm XEONs.

Package includes DELL-DD981F15 certificate matching the SLIC added by mikewh

... and you are ready to go:

Thanks again Dansolo and Thanks mikewh Rolleyes

You can safely install 6 or 8Go DDR2-800, I have increased from 4Go in these 2 steps.

Hi, I guess those Yorkfield-CL/Harpertown Xeon CPUs cannot be used without the BIOS update (i.e. with just the LGA socket mod) or will they just remain unrecognized and system unable to run off them, right? I'm very curious because I understood the Vostro 200 could not support QuadCore CPUs but can't remember if the limitation was in BIOS or physically on the mobo itself.

But ouch, from 65W TDP on Wolfdale C2D to 120W on Harpertown! Yorkfield-CL with 80W TDP might be a better choice.

"Regular" LGA775 Yorkfield Xeon X33x0 or Core2Quad (Q8xxx/Q9xxx) are not covered by the mod?

Great job, regardless!

Dell Vostro 200 ST - C2D E8600 3.33GHz/Xeon X5270 3.5GHz, 8Go DDR2-800, GeForce GT730, Win7 x64, HiSie 10.13.6/BigSur 11.6.2

Sure, the Yorkfield-CL with 80W TDP is the better choice, by all means Angel

Also the Harpertown-L series with TDP 50W will be also a good choose, but will they pass the POST test is hardware dependent and I have no means to check that.

All:

Kentsfield ( example: LGA 775, SLACT Intel Xeon X3220, TDP 100 Watt )
Yorkfield ( example: LGA 775, SLAWF Intel Xeon X3320, TDP 95 Watt )
Yorkfield-L ( example: LGA 775, SLGPF Intel Xeon L3360, TDP 65 Watt )
Yorkfield-CL ( example: LGA 771, SLASD Intel Xeon X3353, TDP 80 Watt )
Harpertown ( example: LGA 771, SLBBJ Intel Xeon E5440, TDP 80 Watt )
Harpertown-L ( example: LGA 771, SLBBQ Intel Xeon L5430 , TDP 50 Watt )

series are covered by this MOD.
___________________________________________________

All BIOS software limitations for QUAD-COREs are lifted (some software limitations for VERY OLD DUAL/SINGLE cores are put instead, but who is going to use Pentium D with FSB 800 nowadays anyway) ,
some hardware limitations are by the TDP (not so robust voltage regulator on the mobo for example),
some limitations are by LGA 775 pins (Harpertown/L do not work on every LGA 775 mother-board because Multi-CPU LGA 771 require CPU select signal to be present)

If you are willing to try - go ahead for all of the platforms above ( You will not brick anything if you use any CPU below 100 Watt )

If you wish to play for sure - go for Xeon Yorkfield-CL (45 nm) series: X3323, X3353, X3363

DO NOT flash this MOD if you use CPU with FSB 800 or 533 (Supported are only 1333 & 1066) !
DO NOT put X54.. series XEONs on this motherboard !

With other words:
1) You will have to use some Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor (E6000, E7000, E8000 series) to do the flash and the mod,
2) boot up the system to check if everything went fine,
3) then install the XEON Processor,
4) then RESET THE CMOS,
5) and then power up you QUAD-CORE upgraded PC Blush

Best regards,
Eugene G.
-----------------------------
EDIT (07.Nov.2014):
Most likely G33M02 will NOT power-up any 775 or 771 QUAD-CORE (at least mine does not)
Most likely G33M03 will DO JUST FINE with all TDP 95W QUAD-COREs (some lucky users have this mobo working with LGA 775 Yorkfield and Kentsfield stable for years)

Yes, use the Intel utility for their ethernet chipsets. I believe this is it, but it's been a while. http://www.intel.com/support/network/ada...008212.htm

Next time don't clear the DMI block. Rolleyes

hello
I have 1 vostro 200 with last 1016 original bios. I'm with raid mode and an SSD crucial M64 with last bios too
but I find the SSD not fast and the system too so I do a full wipe to ssd but still the same
I'm on W7 32. I f I want to move to 2nd bios to AHCI, will it be more fast and can I boot after or must I install windows again due to blue screen????
I can't save my old bios with winflash 1.92 because it block completly
what should I not click on option with winflash to avoid mac adress problem or what should I do to correctly save and flash it
thank's

EDIT : I just flash 2nd bios with winflash and all is passed correctly??????I have still bios 1.0.16 and nothing change...
just a little message during boot talking about AHCI
but for setup winflash I doesn't tick anything (clear cmos, all.....) and reboot
I change from registry key /sevices.....msahci the key from 3 to 0 and reboot and change in bios AHCI mode but I got blue screen
Must I format with new windows or should I flash bios again and tick "Update all" & "Clear Cmos"
thank's again....

Yes, even with the latest non-modded bios (1.0.16) you can run up to 8GB(or more?). I have 6GB installed on my Vostro 200 G33M02.

I don't believe it's possible. The Vostro 200 uses a G33M02 motherboard. And so far as we know, you need a G33M03. But only a Vostro 400 uses a G33M03.

Unless someone can prove differently...

I can confirm that the bios found in post #63 will work for a Vostro 400 DG33M03 and allow it to run Xeon quads. I've just successfully installed my X5470 on mine this morning.

Cool
