Enabling VT-d/VT-x on MSI Cubi 2 Bios
#1
Hi there,

I have an MSI Cubi 2 with an Intel i5-7200U that I use as a proxmox host. It's compact and energy efficient, and it does almost everything I'd like it to do. The one missing feature is VT-d and VT-x, so that I can pass through the iGPU to one of the VMs, so I can do hardware transcoding. Sadly, the BIOS does not have an option to enable this, even though the CPU supports it. Is this something that can be fixed with a BIOS mod? I've attached the BIOS I'm running, and I took some photos of the BIOS menus and upload them here: https://imgur.com/a/178zcfa.

Thanks,
Jan

Hello. Judging by AmiDefaults variables, vt-x is enabled and vt-d is disabled. If you could somehow confirm that vt-x is indeed active at the current state, I might try helping with vt-d.

Yes, that's right. I can see the virtualization extensions in Proxmox, but I'm getting an error about an IOMMU not being found. IRQ forwarding is also disabled, that might be turned on by VT-d as well. Thanks so much!

Here's 2 cloud folders:
option 1 - no BIOS flashing unlock;
option 2 - flash and unlock.

Each is a separate way to get to vt-d. It's needless to use second if any of the options works. Find vt-d in 'Chipset' - 'SA' Configuration'.
Dont forget to chek out readmes in order to figure out how to proceed with the files.

Awesome, thanks! Will give it a try tomorrow and let you know

That worked great, thanks so much! After the BIOS was patched, it was easy to find the VT-d option and enable it. After that, everything worked as expected.
