HP Envy X360 weird problem
#1
Hello,

For a few days i have a new laptop, brought from a online auction website. Laptop came sealed in box, everything seemed ok but after a day i've noticed a strange problem:

At every boot the year part of the date seems to be off, always booting to 2021 or 2031. I have tried to enter the bios to see the date but when i try to edit the year, the entered value jumps all over the place. When i type 2018 i get 2221 or another random year.

Tried to update the bios, but after the update, it behaves the same. Tried to open the laptop, disconected the battery, left it for 10 minutes. After startup i got a bios settings reset but when i try to change the date...the same happens.

got a youtube video of it, maybe i didn't explain it right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tizvoYNT...e=youtu.be

Anyone got any ideea of the problem/what to do/how to fix it?

Thank you

Num-lock enabled, or disabled? Try other way around and see, or use keys above letter keys.

Hi, tried with a external keyboard using the numpad and the normal keys, no success. When i press enter to change the year, it jumps back to 2021 when i type 2018. Other years give diffrent results.

If i press F5/F6 to change the values up or down, it only goes up by 10 years until 65.535

What happens if you press FN key (Once) before pressing F5 or F6? It looks like you almost had it at end of video Big Grin

What is the exact full model name (15-what) so I can grab the manual and see if anything catches my eye.
I see 3-4 different ones when I google Envy 360

Did you load optimal defaults after you flashed the BIOS? When you do shut down, and unplug the system for more than 5 minutes, does it loose time at all, from it's current incorrect time? if yes, it may need new CMOS battery.

Tried with the FN + F5/F6 it just toggles the keyboard light on/off.

The model is HP Envy X360 Convertible 13-ag0xxx. so it's a 13 inch X360 Envy with a Ryzen 2500u in it.

Tried the optimum defaults.

No cmos battery, it relies on the main battery (checked by unplugging it).

No lost time, the clock runs OK all of the time. but the date is messed up every time (not the whole date, just the year).

Never seen something like this, never Smile

If no lost time, and you think it only relies on main battery, then time would be lost any time the battery is removed. That's not good, I doubt it built that way, but you'd have to take it apart to find CMOS or check a tear down video and see. You can try to reset it by removing main battery, unplug PSU, press and hold the power button for a minute, then boot up and load optimal, reboot and see if you can make proper changes or not.

I can't find manual for that model, do you have a link to it's driver/BIOS download page?

Hmm...yea, when removed the battery the clock reseted but the date was at 2021, like always...

Both manuals are worthless Big Grin Sad I checked the BIOS download, package contains two different BIOS, so not ideal there either.
I see in BIOS menus, tab to move between fields and then enter to select before input. Do you move to date/year, then hit enter, then try to adjust?

It's arrows to move between inputs, enter to select the date portion you want to change then type.

BIOS itself says "use Tab" what does tab do when you are on the field you want to change? I guess it doesn't matter really, you're hitting enter then trying to change, so that's the part that is correct and should be working Sad

What is your ME version, check in BIOS maybe on main page, if not there check with HWInfo64 on the large window in the motherboard section, expand and see ME then look on right for FW version. I'll get you tool to dump BIOS region and let me look at it for you, maybe something is messed up or NVRAM issue etc.
