Laptop Jumpers
#1
Hey everyone! I wasn't exactly sure where to put this, so I thought the general discussion would be good.

I have been trying to change a bios setting for some time now, and hit a wall with the BIOS write protection (I have an HP m7-n109dx with InsydeH2O Rev. 5.0). Before I go the SPI programming route, I thought I'd check the motherboard one last time, and came across a couple jumpers: JME1 and JCMOS1. The JCMOS1 is for clearing the CMOS, but I'm not so sure what the JME1 jumper does or how to use it correctly. I shorted it, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Searching google has come up with it being related to Intel ME, but I can't find anything that tells me how to use it. Anyone have any ideas? Please see attached image.

The JME1 jumper is normally used to clear the data stored by the Intel Management Engine, but on some Intel boards it is used as a bios recovery mode. Short the jumper for a few seconds to remove configuration and performance data. This will not allow you too change any bios settings as ME is not a part of the bios, just stored on the same cmos chip.
More information on ME here.

Thanks for the reply, and clearing that up for me! The more information, the better! :-)
