MCP61PM-HM (Iris)
#31
I'm 99% certain the only difference between the two boards is the amount of USB ports. The IRIS had empty slots on the PCB, the IRIS8 has two ports added in the rear and an extra port header for the front. You may run into some voltage issues, both boards only support 65w.

Hi Superchad,

The Iris probably won't handle the Phenom line - its just shy of working with that tech. I believe the 5600+ is the best chip to upgrade too as its a 89W TDP chip - whereas if I recall correctly the 6000+ was 125W and is a bit much for the MAX TDP of the Iris board.

Thanks,

TheWiz

We haven't tested that specific CPU but that's the golden CPU I've been saying would probably be best suited for these boards, and those 910es are nice, cool, and fast too Smile

Hello Sir!
Firstly, Thank you for the tremendous work you've put helping us give a second chance with these older systems. I wanted to ask you some questions and apologize in advance for my lack of experience. I've never flashed a BIOS before and am using a MCP61PM-HM Rev 1.0B I'm assuming it's an Iris.
  1. The links provided in the first page of your post with the steps, are they up to date? Do they have the latest version? Also will it be compatible on my board?
  2. My board supports up to Athlon 64 x2 4800+ as it has currently 5.27, if I flashed it and used this bios provided would I be able use the AMD Phenom II X4 910e? have you confirmed it works?
  3. Before I make the jump, I wanted to back up my BIOS and restore just in case. I was following this thread here: https://www.bios-mods.com/bios-recovery/...-recovery/   Since I don't have a laptop, should I be taking out the CMOS battery instead where it mentions to take out the battery in step 6?
  4. After the flashing, is there any settings that need to be updated in the BIOS?
Thank you again for everything. I do apologize for suddenly reaching out. I am eager to flash but am nervous and would like to make sure everything is backed up first before anything.
