[SOLVED] HP Pavilion ZD8000 BIOS RAM Limit?
#61
Try to flash my special mod.
If it can boot with two DIMMs, then make new screenshot of Device Manager.

Works with 2 SO-DIMMs installed, 1GB and 2GB. System reports 2688MB of memory.
Also, a somewhat off-topic question-- would it be possible to have 1920x1200 addressable in the BIOS firmware for WUXGA LCDs? I tried installing one but it only goes up to 1600x1200.

Thx. And check next mod.

Note: I did remove my wifi card earlier because it wasn't on the whitelist HP made, and I have my own patch for that which I'll integrate after testing. I did have an officially supported card in here once.

Nice. So we have three mods now:
1. F34 for X600/128 (3072 MB)
2. F34 for X600/256 (2816 MB)
3. F34 for X300 (3072 MB) by Maxinator500.

Would it be possible to go any higher on the 256MB model?

No.
Look at your screenshot: the chipset cannot use memory above 0xB0000000 for RAM. Because it's used by internal devices.

Awh, that's okay; I am very happy that I at least got an extra 256MB on this machine. I was worried I'd forever be stuck with 2.5GB, as I was for almost 3 years owning this laptop... but it seems as though I was wrong. 2.75GB definitely provides a nice improvement considering HP's intended max was 2GB, and also the fact that it squeezes out a bit more power from this machine. I also added my patched bioscod3.rom to this BIOS and it works great with that; I installed an Atheros AR5008X Mini-PCI wireless card that runs much better than the 802.11g broadcom """MaxPerformance""" HP OEM card. (The Atheros card itself is in fact, from an old Airport Extreme Base Station I took apart!)

Thank you very much for your help. I would however like to see how I can get the unused SATA pads on the board populated with a port and find out how I could get the BIOS to pick up Serial ATA devices (it's in the code, but it's disabled). However, that would be for another thread. I have a spare parts unit to test these deeper endeavors with. Big Grin
