[request] Acer Veriton 3900Pro newer cpu support
#11
Thanks for replying.
I created an empty file using copy NUL ncpucode.bin, then did the /nc_cpucode ncpucode.bin and indeed extracts the ncpucode.bin module from bios.
I also did the copy /b ncpucode.bin+.... ncpucode.bin and then attributed ncpucode.bin read-only and then I did the /nc_cpucode ncpucode.bin again but it won't update or overwrite the existing ncpucode of bios file.

Do all commands. Don't miss anyone.

I did it and I been digging somewhere else.
It seems cbrom195.exe did the trick...

C:\bios>CBROM195.EXE 689A1P68.bin /nc_cpucode ncpucode.bin
CBROM195.EXE V1.95 [12/14/07] ©Phoenix Technologies 2001-2007
Combine NCPUCODE.BIN file to 689A1P68.bin...

with intel tool:
CPUID=6F0 Rev=05 2005/08/18 CRC=6D5B2CCA Off=E9FE0 Size=1000 Plat=0
CPUID=1067A Rev=A0E 2015/07/29 CRC=A3107D75 Off=EAFE0 Size=2000 Plat=2,6

Obviously, I won't flash it right away. I need to double-triple-quad check the final bios for unwanted changes which could render the board to paper weight thingy.
For example, I read that cbrom115 doesn't mess with MINIT module (yet to confirm if it is the case) and someone also said to open with another award editor tool to rechecksum the bios file.

Use CBROM196

Ooh........ *head bang against the keyboard*
You really meant 196, that 6 looked like an 8 to me...
Apologies...
Yes, I can confirm cbrom196.exe also worked.
The 196.exe seems to crop numbers from the list:

Ook....... I applied the bios using the installed intel E2220. It flashed ok. I wonder why acer r03-a4 zip contains a flash.bat with bios.bin written when the provided bin is not bios.bin.
The system was shut down via software and I turned on the system again.... yey... it didn't brick. I loaded defaults anyway+saved/reboot, still ok. BUT....
There is always a "but"....
I replaced the E2220 with the E5800 that's installed on Asus P5GC-MX/1333 and.... same behavior... cpu fan spinning max and nothing on the screen.
I feared this might happened because... someone write something like even if we replace/update the microcode, it wouldn't matter.

Current BIOS hasn't support for 45-nm CPUs.
Try to install Q6600 or Q6700 with native BIOS.

That's a good idea... except I got none of them. I would have to source them from aliexpress.
Just tried to steal the ncpucode.bin from an gigabyte motherboard which website lists plenty of cpus. It's bios has plenty of cpu microcode. The Acer has 73k microcode size and the gigabyte bios has 130k. I injected the whole microcode from gigabyte's bios into acer's bios and it's now 130k:
(SP) NCPUCODE 20801h(130.00K) 20801h(130.00K) NCPUCODE.BIN
and reflashed again...
Same thing, it seems it hates 45nm cpus.
The Q6600 and Q6700 are 95w tdp, over 130w max load.

Tecnically same board, I looked into the bios floating around and it has the same microcode listing.
https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Foxconn/Q...KRS2H.html <- no mentions of 330J I know it works.
