Bios update failed. Bricked laptop
#1
Hello lads, i bricked my laptop ASUS G75VX by updating bios from original to latest version from manifacturer page. In bios update everything was perfect till its started to verified procces. So at the end i received error and from then i have bricked laptop.
I tryed every step from this page to recovery it by using flash drive formated as fat and putt there file renamed as phoenixtool requested G75VX.bin and G75VX.206 holded alt-home combo . Still no response. Holding alt-home buttons starts blink hdd lights, but flashdrive light works just a second when i press power button. What should i do ?
Thanks

PS i tried renamig bios file to amiboot.rom bios.rom and allot other names and formats.

USB Formatted to FAT32? If yes, try FAT16 too

If it's searching your HDD for a BIOS file possibly, since you said it seems to have HDD LED Blinking, you can try removing the HDD and put on another computer and setup a FAT32 partition on it near the end of drive, then put all BIOS in that partition and try again. Same could be done with any spare HDD/SSD you have that will fit.

You may need to order CH341A + SOIC8 test clip cable.

Thank you for response good Sir,

I was trying both FAT32 and FAT16 formats, still get no response from laptop.

Idea with hdd could work, but i am not sure, becouse i tryed to put same bios with another names in to CD disk. Computer searches for files about minutte or longer (becouse of files count) then restarts but still nothing just power led is on.

I have allready ordered those tools, but they gonna take a while with shipping from China.

So it searches CD also? If yes, they HDD method may fail too. Do you have the stock CD that came with system, try that in there if you do.
If not, don't worry, after long wait, once your tools arrive you can fix it.

Yeah i have original cd, tryed to boot bios from it, but nothing hapened, i think there is no backup bios. One more question is soic8 sop8 cable will fit on my bios chip? Or better to solder it out ?

Hi,

I'm not an expert at all in BIOS recovery but what about trying with a FAT32 or FAT16 USB drive without the hard drive connected?

Greetings,

Hello bootpanic,

Thank you for answer. I tryed this method, but it doesnt works. Holding ctrl-home combo computer immediately reboots. Like it would have nothhing to read. When i have cd in cdroom with bioses and ssd connected hdd light is flickering for a while but then restarts and still got no signs of life. Without ctrl-home combo laptop keyboard, hdd and cpu lights turns on for a couple seconds and then finito. I would say that is motherboard usb foult, becouse usb stick is not flickering as it should to do, but as i sayd i tryed with cd also. It reads it for a while, restarts and shows nothing. It still could be different name of bios file, but i dont even know how to rename that file after so many tries.

Did you try another USB stick preferably a small capacity one from another brand? I'm not sure if it makes a difference but i remember that back in the old days some mainboards were picky... booting from 1 USB key but not from another with exactly the same content. I know the laptop is not booting from the USB drive when doing BIOS recovery but i'm just thinking out loud stating what i would try. But like i said before, i'm not an expert regarding BIOS recovery...

I'm sure the specialists on this forum can give you much better advise on what to try.

Yes, SOIC8 test clip cable fit the BIOS no soldering required.

Make copies of original BIOS, so you have all different named BIOS possibilities all at once, on same location. So 2-5 same BIOS but all with the different names you are trying, that will make your attempts easier and you wont need to keep renaming things.

Bootpanic is correct, smaller cheaper USB always better, larger newer ones often have worst chance of working.

If it is searching HDD, do like I said and put a FAT32 partition on the end of that drive, or use another drive if you have to, and put FAT32 partition on it, then put all copies of BIOS there.
