A7N8X-LA by HP BIOS unlock
#11
I neither have AIM nor YIM, I have ICQ and MSN and xfire and skype... Big Grin
Cause of the unhealthy asustek-website I attached the BIOS-archive for you! Wink
I'now trying to divide the -E deluxe-BIOS and the -VM-BIOS into pieces and merge them together again
You almost got the oil thing right, but I know these horrible US-news, though sometime I watch canadian TV-news for real information! Wink

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

So the VM is essentially a revamp or resurrection bios. I'm sure if we searched the net we could find an asus bios that gave birth to the VM and LA versions.
So yeah he could totally flash this safely the diff's are my guess less than 3%.
And there is alot more options to play with in the VM version. Rock on dude you tracked that down fast! kudos to you my friend! Big Grin

ok Llywelyn you should be able to flash this and be all set! enjoy!
and thank MrTangoWhiskey for the super fast hunt down on that bios.
wow seriously that was like a bios contract hit or bounty! woot! Big Grin

The 3% difference maybe the firewire-stuff and the base-BIOS for all this is the A7N8X-BIOS, closest existing version is the A7N8X-E/400 BIOS but it is about 1024k big...

BTW.: both are award??

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

Hey guys!
First of all, I wasn't expecting such a bios hunt for me hehe. Special thanks for all those who want to help me Smile
Before I flash it, I have few questions:
- What did you do on these bios? Have you modded them ?
- Which bios should I download ? (you have attached 2 files)
- Will I be able to access the motherboard's options?
- Should I use this tutorial : http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Ho...-DOS-Guide to flash that bios?
- Is my bios AMI or AWARD or something else?

I am totally amazed by your speed and your skill hehe !!! I will have the system at home within 1 week so I will tell you if the BIOS has worked (and of course it will! :p)
Also, I will post my overclocks if you want Wink

to MrTangoWhisky:
- When I bought the computer there was a single partition so there's no Recovery or BS like that... But I have since made 2 other partitions (ubuntu and its swap).
- Hope you will also be able to test this special bios on your system Smile

to f3bandit and MrTangoWhisky:

You're awesome Smile

So, what do you think about my questions?

Long and short of it me and Tango got a little nerdy after your post last nite and started talking. he was at work so he could at least get payed to surf the net but could not use or download any files. so he looked up the original board before it was re-branded for hp. so they are Identical boards. I had the task of checking the bios roms and they are made to work with either board. so yes it is safe to flash which tango is excited as well as he is gonna buy that board as well! woot! Big Grin
as for the two attached files the are the same file. there is a glitch with the forum code that it show the download attachment twice for some reason!?!
the admins are working on a fix for that. but it is harmless problem!

Bios will still be AMI, ASUS tends to favor AMI

Yes there are many more options to tweak
Advanced, chipset, PCIPnP, And Onboard Devices

ordered a board, just got the 3000+, merged a BIOS... well I will post the customized BIOS and let someone else open it up after testing it on my own board though I sometimes have no luck with things like this... Wink
The hunting was so quick cause this is a little bit oldschool so it's my way and I worked with the award-BIOS of an A7N8X-E deLuxe special Rev. 3.0 wich was a prebetaversion of the -E/400 on a -P (-E with WLAN and Firewire both onboard) I sold several times in an earlier life. Big Grin Just not to get boring I stop here. I will send f3bandit a copy of the roms tomorrow (now it's 23:00 in Germany) so he can have another look at them and maybe he is also able to create a surely more stable version of this hack. Should be easy to add the firewire from the -E-BIOS to the -VM-BIOS for him, I took about 4 hours to get it shown correctly without opening up anything hidden!

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

As told here are the roms... So maybe f3bandit can do what I did in less than half the time and even more? I extracted the chipset.rom of the -E deluxe and replaced it in the -VM though it should work. But I havn't had a look for hidden features or menues! Good luck with it!

Attached Files
.rom   A7N8X-E deluxe.rom (Size: 512 KB / Downloads: 6)
.rom   A7N8X-VM 1010.rom (Size: 512 KB / Downloads: 11)

Okay so I'll wait for f3bandit's try in adding the firewire support in the motherboard and having that computer back Smile
