[Unlocked] A08 w/ Unlocked Options & 580M GPU Thermal Throttle Removal
#11

Also, I had the same issue. It took a good 20-30 seconds to get to the alienhead screen, however, if it works, in the end it is worth it. Not sure what is causing the long bootup though.

Hopefully this long bootup will be fixed in final build.
Regarding the Throttle down, was this in the unmodded A08 bios? What temp does your GPU get too on modded bios with furmark?

so , i understand now that the problems are :-

1 ) take long time to boot .

2 ) 3D support removed .

but the throttle problem was fixed in this mod .

am i right !
any one reply to this to make me start modifying it again now .

Yes that right,

I'm not on this tread but if you make working gtx485m for 3D vision, i add you 30$. Smile

As the throttle problem was fixed in my moded A08 , i will look into the 3D support and boot only .
Thanks for your reply .

I have not really had alot of time to test throttle issue fixed on my laptop. Throttling happened only a few times when playing games and running benchmark. I will take LVNeptunes word for it. I do not have 3d on my laptop so would not be able to test that feature. Did you manage to isolate and delete dell programming from the A08 bios to stop the GPU throttling, or did you change the Dell throttling temp setting higher setting?

I will upload another mod after i get my notebook. Fixed today or tomorrow , please be patient.
And pkease flash the original a04 and find the throttle temp. Then compare it to the throttle temp of my modified a08 and tell me the results please.

The A04 does not have throttling, but A04 unable to play 3D if you bought the optional extra 3D screen on laptop. anything above A04 bios does have throttling. so that why we wanted the A08 which is latest Dell Bios without the throttling and with 3D enabled and all the other updates included in bios after A04.

Have you tried my modified a08 !
If yes , tell me if it throttles and the temp of the throttle please

The modified A08 throttles at the GPU's throttle. This is fine. Like I said, if you just fix the extremelt long boot up time and the 3D issue all will be well Big Grin

I think he wants to know what temperature the GPU throttles at when it is triggered by GPU throttling mechanism. He also wants to know when modfied A08 bios is used, what temerature is the throlling happening at. This info may be helpfull for him in the fix he is trying to do.

Frankly I rather you provide him the feedback to just be consisten, different hardware might behave differently and just confuse the issue.

Also do you have the other bioses links, it may helpfull to look on the difference between the A04 bios where the bios throlling wasn't there and A05 where it was introduced. A08 bios must have alot of code that is unrleated to the throttling, just becasue of the updates that happens between versions. Just by looking at what has changed between A04 and A05 might be the clue he needs to remove bios throttling without removing the 3D

Anyway, do we know at this point for sure if the bios throtte is power usage based or temperature based?

Here are the Hardware info I got for my 580M as shown in Device Manager. It might be usefull.
