Is my BIOS 64 bit?
#1
Hi, I hope I'm in the right forum to ask this question.
I have an Acer Aspire 1804. Six yrs old, completely original, runs every day for upto 16 hours. I have no wish to replace it with a modern Plastic fantastic. O/S is Vista stripped back to W2K, runs very fast.
The CPU is an Intel 3.2 g HT, ( model 540, 32 bit ). The Bios is Phoenix 2.9.( the latest from Acer for this model ).
I have recently learnt that Intel produced a 541 which is exactly the same as the 540 but with 64 bit.
The chipset is a 915p which is 64 bit compatable.
I wish to buy the 541 but would like to confirm that the BIOS is 64 bit?
I have looked around the Web for the answer, but to no avail, so I came here for the Experts opinion.

Another question if I may.
Although the Acer BIOS ( 2005 ) for this machine is the latest, I ran a BIOS check and it tells me that there is an update. Should I stick with this Acer BIOS or upgrade? ( I'm a believer in the adage, If it aint broke .....
regards,
Eddie

If your system will accept the 541 64 bit cpu it will work. You will need a 64 bit OS. If there is an official acer bios update you should get it. Good luck.

Wow, fast reply, thankyou.
The BIOS update wasn't an Acer BIOS it was from a BIOS checker, the type that lets you check for free, but then asks for payment .
Again, thankyou.

If there is an actual update for it, it will be on the Acer website. If it's not on their site do not install it.
