Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Full AM3 Support
well i should receive this cpu in about 30 hours. i hoped to have some sort of response before then but i guess im just going to have to figure this out on my own since no one seems to know/care. i will check back later today in hopes to find a response but wont get my hopes up lol. suppose ill end up writing this off as a dead forum and find somewhere else to seek knowledge. i just like to read as much information on a topic before i face the issue in hopes to dodge any surprises. thank you for all the info that i have gathered thus far...

Get the 5001 bios here. I don't believe the 1804 bios will work properly with your new CPU. I purchased the AMD 945 and it works perfectly with the 5001 bios.

Thanks Paul. I have a USB drive with the 5001 BIOS ready to rock when needed. I cant flash the BIOS without the CPU though. Do you know of any problems I would face with the 1804 BIOS? When you go to Asus supported CPU it links the 5001 but when you click "Go>" it routes you to the 1804 and states the CPU is supported since the 5001 update(similar CPU is supported, exact model is not on list). This CPU is basically the Athlon II x4 650(actually compared stats and are identical). I got the 5001 a few days back from the FTP but thanks again for providing a link Smile Every link you click on the Asus supported site redirects you to the 1804 which is why I ask. What I haven't been able to gather so far is what is the difference between the two versions? Are they both not stable?

The Asus web site is screwed up. The 5001 bios should work with all previous processors. If the processors is a 45micron processor you probably need the new bios installed before you put the processor in.

flashed to 5001. the 1804 worked but didnt recognize the cpu. i flashed before i tried any oc. i have it at 3.6ghz using stock hsf and its staying less than 80f. ive read people made it to 3.9 stable. ill get a cpu cooler and see what she can do Smile thanks for the info.

Are you sure it is 80F not 80C. If it is 80C then you are overheating the cpu. I have an AMD 945 clocked at 3.45Ghz and I am using a larger cooler it gets up to 65C using Prime95 with 37C at minimal load. The max temp for my cpu is 70C.

ya it was fahrenheit(was 25c). that was idle though, after i tested with prime95 it got up to 67 celcius. the cpu is rated for max working temp of 71c so i decided not to go higher without a new cooler. i have a 2 120mm fan intakes side of case blowing on cpu and other blowing on gpu then 2 more located top of case for exhaust, in addition front intake over hdd with rear intake top rear, psu has its own 135mm and is located bottom of case, it is also summertime so ac is running all day keeping it about 65f in here. other than that only other thing i can think of is my cpu is 95w yours is 125w, less power = less heat.

My AMD945 is 95W. Possibly the additional transistors for the cache memory contribute to the heat.

Question
Ok, I've read thru about 10 pages and can't find an answer to my question so I am hoping someone can help.

I have the m2n-sli Deluxe MB. I checked Asus cpu support and it daid the AMD Phenom II X4 955 was supported. I bought the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz AM3 figuring it would be the same cpu, not realizing it was a new version of the CPU. I have gotten the system to run with it using the 5001 bios, but it is highly unstable. I cleared the bios, set the power to 125W and the timing to 16X. I turned off the AMD cool and quiet. The MB shows the correct speed, Windows reports the right speed. CPU-Z says it is only running at 833 MHZ and the system is slow. The system is still unstable, I cannot put in any of my PCI Sata cards without the system just freezing after awhile, plus windows keeps telling me it's not acpi compliant in BSD. I clear the bios again, reboot and it runs for awhile then locks up again..usually 20 -30 min. IF I take the Sata cards out it runs pretty stable, but I lose 6 hard drives and 2 Blu ray burners (yes I have a lot of drives if you include the ones on the board as well).

I really would like this CPU to work, but am willing to get the AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz if it will work with the board. OR am I out of luck with a Deneb CPU?
The reply from Asus was the 955 was not supported (tho it is said to support it) and I should return it and get the 945, but they didn't mention about the support for the Deneb, and those are the only CPU's I am seeing on Newegg.

Any suggestions?

Some people embrace the night, because the rules of the day do not apply.

Only the 95 watt versions are supported the Black Edition is a 125watt version. I have the 945 95watt version and it runs without any problems. Many people with tweeking can get the 125watt version to run but you motherboard is not designed for the 955 125 watt version.
