Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 BIOS 3703 with all OROMS/LAN/VGA updated
#1
Hello,

Made this with UBU and flashed my own BIOS, works like a charm.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>LINK<<<<<<<<<<

Update: I should note that my boot speed has decreased dramatically, my PC now boots into Win8 before the screen manages to get a picture... (so basically under 5 sec)

Versions included:

Intel RAID/SATA OROM: 13.5.0.2164

Intel VBIOS: 2170

Intel LAN OROM: 1.5.61

Marvell SATA OROM/EFI: 1.0.0.0034

JMicron SATA OROM: 1.07.28

Dear SkebbZ,

I signed up on this forum just to thank you for this! I have been wanting to do this for a while, just never got around to it. I double checked, and indeed you are using the latest ROMS/Firmwares!

For other people, be sure to use AFU to update BIOS as it is only way to get a modified BIOS on a modern Asus board. Here is a AFU flashing tutorial.

Thank you again SkebbZ!!!

Hello,

Just wanted to say that I flashed this using the built-in Asus EZ-Flash under the Tools menu in the BIOS, worked fine!

Ah! Intersting, I will try that way too then.

I guess it is the newer Asus boards that needs to use AFU method. Thanks!

Just updated via Asus EZ-Flash, and it worked like a charm. I reset BIOS to defaults and then re-configured everything.

Thanks again!

Hey, just joined to thank you for doing this *and* ask a question...

I've never been able to get Win7 x64 to take any Intel RST driver over 12.9.4.1000 (probably because you'd have to enter in the info for the 6-series controller into the INF). Will there be a mismatch between those drivers and the 13.5 OPROM?

EDIT: Crossed my fingers and answered my own question. BIOS is running peachy so far.

Hi, many thanks from me!
So, what about GOP driver in this modification? New version or not?
Thanks!

Been running this modified BIOS for few months now.

I am having one weird issue. Sometimes my built-in Ethernet network card will randomly disconnect and computer will go offline. To fix this, I have to go to go to device manager, disable and then re-enable the network card. Then I will get network connectivity again. This happens 1-3 times a month randomly.

I have latest Intel v19.5 network drivers, this is on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Power savings for network card is disabled. I feel like this started after updating to this custom BIOS. Any else have this problem?

Edit:

I have since performed a clean install of Windows 8.1 64-bit, and also using the latest Intel v19.5 drivers. I am no longer experiencing the disconnection issue. It has been 2 weeks so far, very solid. If it happens again, I will be sure to post back.

I have modified the official 3802 with the UBU v1.63.3.1 tool, but with Intel RST OROM v12.9.0.2006 instead. v12.x is optimized and designed for Intel 6 series chipset. IE: Better performance and stability for Z68 motherboard over v13.5.0.2164 which SkebbZ used.

Flash via the 'Asus EZ Flash 2' utility which is built-in to the BIOS. After flashing, be sure to reset to optimized defaults (F5), Then Save and Quit. Power off computer for 10 seconds, power back on and then go back into the BIOS to re-configure everything.

Download modified 3802 Mod2 BIOS (3 Versions):

Warning, like any custom BIOS please use at your own risk!!!

1) This version has latest OROM's but with custom OROM for 'TRIM in RAID0' support and BEST known CPU MicroCodes for Overclocking: LINK
2) This version has latest OROM's but with BEST known CPU MicroCodes for Overclocking: LINK
3) This version has latest OROM's but with the LATEST CPU MicroCodes: LINK (I personally use this BIOS and it flashed successfully, FYI)

OROM Versions:

Intel IRST RAID/SATA OROM: 12.9.0.2006 (v12.x is optimized and designed for Intel 6 series chipset. IE: Better performance and stability for Z68 motherboard.)

Intel VBIOS OROM: 2171 (Updated it the proper way via this method)

Intel LAN OROM: 1.5.62

Marvell SATA OROM/EFI: 1.0.0.0038 / 1.0.0.0034

JMicron SATA OROM: 1.07.28

Intel CPU MicroCode: (Note: Only enough space for the mainstream processors. Thus DO NOT FLASH to this BIOS if you are using a Nahalem or a MOBILE Ivy Bridge/SandyBridge processor. Naturally, MAJORITY of you are not effected.)

Ivy Bridge CPUID 0306A9 = 1C (19 used for the Overclocking Optimized version)
SandyBridge CPUID 0206A7 = 29 (28 used for the Overclocking Optimized version)

Matching Drivers:

- Be sure to match with latest Intel RST v12.x driver. Currently it is v12.9.4.1000 WHQL. LINK. If drives are in AHCI mode, then no need to install the bloat RST software. Just install drivers only (typically in the F6 folder) via Device Manager. More info HERE.

- Use latest Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver. Currently it is v11.0.6.1194. LINK. v11.0.x is newest supported by our 6-Series boards.

Other Updates:

- Update the MEI firmware, *may* need to be re-applied after every BIOS flash (I did not need to update this again with 3802 Mod 2 BIOS). Latest firmware is currently v8.1.65.1586, found HERE. Before flashing the firmware, you will need to have the MEI driver installed FIRST so that it can communicate properly.

- Update the Intel 82579V LAN Gbe firmware. Instructions HERE. This just needs to be updated once, since Asus EZ Flash 2 does not update the Gbe region in the BIOS chip. This should fix any weird network connectivity issues or disconnections/stability issues with large file transfers.

- Update the ASMedia 104x USB 3.0 firmware. Instructions HERE. This has greatly increased USB 3.0 stability for me. I used to have numerous problems with my system crashing/freezing when plugging in certain USB 3 devices to my front USB 3.0 ports. Updating firmware made it totally stable/reliable! Be sure to match with latest ASMedia 104x drivers, which is currently v1.16.38.1. Latest drivers can be found HERE.

Latest drivers/firmware can typically be found HERE.

Updates:

October 1, 2016 - Linked to updated MEI and RST drivers. New MEI firmware. New ASMedia driver.
October 5, 2016 - Updated BIOS with VGA OROM v2171 and latest CPU MicroCode's which could add further stability. Also, included 3 different BIOS versions based on user needs.

Fully tested by flashing my self using Asus EZ Flash 2 utility which is built-in to the BIOS. Be sure to reset to defaults after flashing, save and quit. Power off computer for 10 seconds, power back on and then go back into the BIOS to re-configure everything.
