Asus Rampage III Extreme ZioMod Bios (Latest: 1601_S17)

Hey guys, long time lurker but, just registered. Would the 1601_S17 Bios be useful (or even required) to install a Xeon 5690 on a R3E? The guy at the thrift shop has one for sale for $80, I want to grab it, but not sure it's compatible with the board/bios... upgrading from i7 920, so would love to rake in the benefits for the low price

Also I'm wanting to put my own BIOS splash screen, I'm retiring that ROG one... will there be enough space with this 1601_s17+image? Are animated images supported or just static?

Asus R3Es all support X5690 by default, possibly even the W series. I'm jealous. I have the X5680 but it is still a beast after all these years.

Its best if you go to the newer threads for these BIOS mods on the R3E so you can get the newer modified BIOS files. This thread is pretty much retired now...
