P6X58D Premium 1501 Intel Raid ROM Update

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to do this and test it as well or if it is done by someone and it works, could someone upload it here ?

I am using RAID 5 and the performance is extremely slow (abnormally slow 40-50MB/s writes) and I want to update the BIOS with the latest Intel ICH10R ROM to see if that will solve it.

The BIOS is located at:

** Cannot Boot With This ROM **

I tried this BIOS update and it looked good - my new 3TB drives were detected, I created the RAID, and then exited the Intel RAID utility and I get a blank screen. ctrl+alt+del still works, everything else does not. The worst part is I can't get to the BIOS or the EZ Flash utility because it seems that after the RAID component is loaded I can't do anything.

I tried tab (show BIOS messages), del (setup), F8 (boot selection), Alt+F2 (EZ Setup) & deleting the new RAID - no avail. I have tried leaving my USB drive in with the ROM files on it, no change - do I need to burn a CD?

Again, this is after the system shows the Boot logo, it detects the CPU, it detects the drive, passes it off to the Intel RAID Rom, Intel Raid ROM displays list of drives, shows my 2 RAIDs (or 1) and then just a blank screen.

Any tips? Any suggestions?

I was able to get my system booting via the Clear CMOS button on the rear panel. From there I was able to revert to the 1501 ASUS provided BIOS.

Sadly the RAID (re-)created in the 10.5 Intel ROM didn't persist when I reverted to v8.0 (which is included from the ASUS ROM)...

So now I have a different question: does anyone know what I need to change on this ROM to make it boot properly on my system?

I'm interested in a working version of this as well (P6X58D Premium), as I recently got a couple of 3 TB drives and was dismayed that I couldn't put them in RAID 1. I'm currently using the default ASUS BIOS v1501 and its Intel OROM is still stuck in the stoneages (v8.x). I found a modded v1301 with OROM v10.1 at http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/...-RAID-ROMs but that OROM is too old (only 10.5+ supports 2.2 TB+ detection for RAID).

I was excited to find this thread but deedubb83's failed report has me a bit scared to try this ROM. If anybody can link a working 10.5+ ROM for this mobo, that would be great.


P.S. I saw that Dansolo posted a ROM for p6x58d-E at http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-marvell-bios that has 3 pages of discussion thread, but I don't think I can use that ROM right?

And if you read the full post by deedubb, it looks like he eventually got that one working.
Just be sure to install the Newest Matching WHQL RAID Drivers from Intel and Create a NEW RAID Array after flashing this BIOS.
Also be sure to set BIOS to Optimized Defaults Before using this Modded BIOS and Flash from DOS with the included Flash Utility !!!!
Worst case scenario is you'll have to revert to the Original BIOS with version 8.x RAID Rom.

Thanks for the response! I checked the Intel Rapid Storage Technology site, and it says the latest version is 10.8.0.1003. I believe these are also the RAID drivers (correct me if I'm wrong).

You said "install the Newest Matching WHQL RAID Drivers from Intel", but the OROM is 11.1.0.1413. Is this going to cause problems? Are there version 11.X Intel RAID drivers that can be downloaded somewhere that's not with the RST package?

Also, can you clarify what you mean by "set BIOS to Optimized Defaults"? Is that a special setting somewhere in the ASUS BIOS?

Hmm, those seem to be for "Intel Desktop Boards", which doesn't seem the same as "motherboards with Intel RAID (ICH10R)". They actually specifically list out the board models (e.g. Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL, Intel® Desktop Board DH67CF, etc.) on the bottom. Is this really what I want for my ASUS mobo?

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver package I was looking at was this one: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_D...nloadType=

That 11.1.0.1006 Driver is working just fine on my Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P.
I don't believe you see the full benefits of the 11.x RAID ROM unless you use the corresponding Drivers.
But ultimately it is up to you to decide what you want to use.

Some good news and some bad news.

Good news is that I installed the 11.1 RAID drivers and it seems to work without any problems so far. My existing Raid 1 is still detected and operates.

Bad news is that I flashed using the BIOS posted by DMAN999 using the instructions in his post, and the following happens:
1) If I press DEL to go into the BIOS, I can enter it, but when I leave and reboot....

2a) ...without pressing DEL to go into the BIOS a second time, it goes straight to a black screen with a blinking cursor. I can't do anything at this point. This black screen is the first thing I see (after the initial blue ASUS boot logo screen), so I proceed to cannot see anything further (Intel OROM screen, Marvell 19XX SATA screen, Win logo).

2b) ....with pressing DEL to *attempt* go into the BIOS a second time, the next screen is the standard screen I usually see right before the BIOS loads (system devices being listed really fast for 2 seconds), but instead of being able to go into the BIOS it jumps straight to the black screen with blinking cursor described in (2a). In other words, I can't back into the BIOS a second time.

I've tried doing step (1) while changing the most basic BIOS settings (IDE mode to RAID mode), and I've also tried step (1) while changing nothing at all and exiting straight back to a reboot, but (2a)/(2b) always happen.

deedubb83's black screen happens much later (he's at least able to see the Intel RAID utility). Mine is pretty much the first thing I see after the boot logo.


I would very much like to be able to get this to work, but I'm not sure what I have to do. As I said I followed all the instructions (flashed from DOS using the included utility, etc.).

I had to press the "CMOS Clear" button on the back and re-flash to my original default ASUS 1501 BIOS.

Any insight on how I can get this to work would be appreciated.
