Request HP DV6-4006TX - SP54077 Wifi Whitelist Removal

Hi,

I feel bad for asking this, as there was a thread that had a patch for the same bios version, but it was not the same model laptop, and the download link was also broken .

I did find a file "sp54077_NWL_ByCamiloml.exe" but from the context of the thread, I was unsure if it was for Whitelist or for unlocking of menus.

If this file is all I need, could you please let me know?

Looking at the info you provided, and if sp54077 is your original BIOS, then sp54077_NWL_ByCamiloml.exe is the file you need.

The "NWL" in the file name stands for "No White List". Lucky for you that you were able to find one so easy.

I've been looking for one for the Intel F.12 (sp55375.exe) with little luck. Camilo's fist attempt didn't work and just hung my system but I recovered using the recovery method mentioned in the sticky thread here.

Make sure you rename your HP_TOOLS partition if you have one and have a USB Recovery Thumb Drive ready and READ the stickies first, not after.

Wow, was that tricky...

So I tried it out (the NWL), firstly I had to copy the platform.ini from a regular bios patch, as the one provided wouldnt load on a x64 system.

Then the Update failed, and I had to remove the HP_TOOLS partition.

Then when I tried the update again, strangely, it tried to do the update inside windows instead of bootmode.
It restarted upon fininishing the patching, and then failed to boot.

Ship, bricked... or so I thought.

I tried the technique of the original bios (renamed to 4 charachters) on a flash drive, with the Windows and B key held down when pressing the power button.
And for awhile I thought it was working, the activity light on the flash drive appeared to show a unique pattern of activity.
However, when it had not finished after 20 minutes of this, I decided to reboot.
Upon reboot, there was no change, and the activity on the flash drive appeared just as if i had not pressed the Window+B.
So I took out the flash drive, restarted once more, and nothing again.
I powered down took out the battery and AC, tried to power it on (to drain anything residual), and then put it all back together, and tried for a final time.

Success! it wasnt bricked! No error messages at all whilst booting, got into Windows and thanked god that I didnt brick it.
Then I noticed that the Wifi Adapter would not connect (this is still the original wifi, not the new one) and remembered that Camilo had said that if this happened you needed to tape over pin 20 on the card. (and that the wifi key on the keyboard would no longer work as a result)

I was shocked to find that the custom bios had actually stuck, even after my "attempts" to restore a standard one.

So I opened up the panel, whipped out the old wifi card, cut a very very tiny piece of sticky tape (just wide enough to cover one pin), covered the pin 20 on the new card, inserted it back in, closed everything up, and booted up.

No error or unsupported message in the bios at all! Got into windows, and the new hardware was recognised, and drivers installed right away!

The new 5ghz wifi card works a treat, there as there is only 1 other 5ghz network within range, but well over 30 2.4ghz networks in my area.
