Lenovo T420 Ivy Bridge Support - i7-3540M
#11
It's Mobile Intel QM67 Express not HM65. There are examples of QM67 laptops supporting ivy bridge, on dell I think.

can try to replace microcode ....but it can not guarantee success ....it is possible that your motherboard is not soldered need power transistors or capacitors....

I just noticed that there was another thread on this right above mine. Similar details are covered in it:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-L...t-i7-3540M

Except I am looking less for general Ivy Bridge support and mainly for that one specific processor.

Are you sure? I'm 99% positive its HM65

Recent Thinkpads are almost always of the QMx7 variety. This is a screenshot of my T420's mainboard in CPU-Z:

Hi, I think you could find some information about t420 ivy bridge upgrade here:
http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/170582-...9b7f60194f

Unfortunately it's in german, but chrome translate does well its job in this case ( I don't understand german, but the general meaning it's clear ).
It's a thread about sandy bridge quad upgrade ( which is feasible without any bios/software change ) and faster ddr3 ram, but there're also a lot of posts about ivy bridge.
Long story short, there is a t420 bios mod modified with ivy microcode instructions, but due to the high risk of failure of the operation nobody has tried the trick yet.

Update:
First attempt. Not successful because of some checksum errors, but they are still working on it.
