Run, click the EC button and save one dump before you start the test. Then run the test and when you experience throttle switch to RW-Tool and create new dump

cool one sec!

[attachment=2702]Ok files attached
pt 1 is the normal idle
pt 2 - 8 are all while throttling i did this much dumps cause lots of number were changing and i needed to make sure i got it lol Smile

Also just ran Call of Pripyat benchmark as you can see throttle detected there as well in day and sun shafts showing as 1fps thats disgusting. Max temps recorded 63/65

Much appreciated

Hey 0x29a do you mine doing a dump as well as you have the same cards as me just to compare, if no trouble. tnx

Thanks, will check it now...

Cool tnx bed time for me grrr Sad

No luck unfortunately Sad
Neither of the EC RAM registers expected to determine throttling state are changed when throttled..

We can wait for 0x29a to try and dump as he knows a little bit/probably alot more then me on how these things work then if no change its not in the EC. bummer! Tnx Mumak!

The problem is in vantage i cant esc and switch to the RW prrogram without disturbing the throttle.

Ok ive just done more testing it would seem the throttle is only lasting about 5sec and then the fps return to normal in vantage after about 30sec again down throttle to 5ec then back up to normal.

It might still be the EC, but I currently have no more ideas left where to search for.. Sad

cool!

Ok please try my last dump after the whole complete vantage test, throttle was detected 5 times in 5sec intervals then goes back to normal file is called ec6662 throttle

Hopefully i should have some good news soon!

On the move now, will try dumping the requested thing in the evening.

BTW, barcode, you say your cards run modified FW to allow 920mV, right? If the throttle is power related, how come my cards downlock at 870mV? They run unmodified FW. This is what's the most puzzling. I will carefully check this later.

exactly why I asked if .90 instead of .92 still throttled or even .89... But now you answered my question since stock .87 throttled too.

(09-04-2011, 08:25 PM)AHMED HOSSAM Wrote: [ -> ]angelknight : can you tell me please from which post you have downloaded this A00 bios , as i want to remember is this modified or original one .

Also i just noticed his using a 2960xm cpu. I'm 100% sure A00 bios will not support this as well.
The only difference between A02 and A03 was cpu support and a few gpu fan control adjustments added according to dell support page
My m18x came with a02 bios from the factory and I replaced the 2720qm with 2960xm without updating the bios.this is interesting

(09-04-2011, 08:58 PM)AHMED HOSSAM Wrote: [ -> ]Barcode : try using this modified flash utility for flashing the original A00 ( posted by johnkss ) .
then try flashing the modified A00 bios attached with the modified utility :-

i will wait your reply now Wink

I will have a try
With a02 and a03 bios, when I am using Aida64 CPU stability test or any other stability test tool,no matter what the temp is,even at 55 degrees, the CPU throttle to under 4000mhz,and I tested my 2960xm on my friend's m18x with bios A00, the throttle always happen above 70 degree, and on his machine, the win 7 CPU score is 4.8,but on mine, the score downwarJd to 4.7,I test this for 10+ times and it can't be a mistake.a lot guys in the forum Dell.benyouhui.it168.com has confirmed this.
BTW. I am in China and I must work when you are in the time of relax,so my reply may be slow,I appreciate for thisSmile

Hang tight. I am posting a guide by tonight for all 2920xm and 2960xm users. They are one in the same. I've reached 4.7ghz peak at 4 core 8threads 100%. So keep checking this thread and I'll have advice
... I already helped on member who private messaged me here. So Angelknight download the a03 bios unlocked from here. Flash it and try the settings I'll be posting.
*no air conditioning, no dry ice, laptop entact (no covers removed), basic notebook cooler under it nothing extreme, fans at max with HWInfo64 program.

barcode - please get this beta build:
www.hwinfo.com/beta/hw64_385_1365.zip
Run, open sensors, then go to Fan Control, switch the new GPU Throttling options, test it and let me know if/how it works !

Thanks Mumak! the fans functions works perfect! max 5200rpm Smile
Throttling function didnt work tho!

As you can see from my screen attached with fans full bolt and the card overclocked to 800MHZ throttle was experience pretty much 5sec after running 3dmark vantage and as you can see the temps didnt pass 54c /52c

So this to me now confirms its not temp related its more like a power related protection. From who! This still remains to be answered.
Nvidia or Dell!

Nvidia same cards 580m on different branded notebooks are seeing no throttle for example clevo and a few others.

Dell m17x experienced it after A04 BIOS and then was fixed, so im totally leaning towards DELL.

I will go try a few different gpu tests now not 3dvantage maybe its vantage as per nvidia's statement

so with that version of hwinfo you are able to run 5200 rpm now. Only once did I see 5200rpm in hwinfo previous build and it was only the cpu fan and was a peak didn't stay for more than a split second?
No, I haven't changed anything in that version for fan speed control. I just added an experimental control of GPU throttling which according to reports doesn't work..
